My disappointment isn't just Pappy either. I have been pretty disappointed in quite a few of the hard to find bottles I have tried. Really has pushed me to really insist on trying something before buying it. Thankfully some of the people in my local whiskey club are well connected so I have the opportunity to try quite a few things.

Agree. I found my way into 2 bottles. Gave one to my boss with a gun (told him he could either shoot the employees or drink the Pappy but not both). I drank the other bottle with friends and found it yucky. Not my style. My friend drank it mixed with Diet Coke

It is interesting that this is happening to Bourbon - it happened to Scotch a while ago: old/'rare' and overhyped releases commanding insane prices. Some is justified, but the 'older-is-better' thing can often be disappointing, and often better tasting releases are also less expensive.

I don't know, I would go with Betty White in a heartbeat.
Yeah, they definitely release a lot of off the wall beers in craft breweries and a good portion of them are really good also! Pretty amazing what they can do.

Fresh crack. Never had this one, but I've heard good things.

Surprisingly smooth nose and finish for 116 proof. Definitely taste that peppery wood. I like it!

Closing the loop here, the trade grew a little and we traded a few bottles, plus grabbed a nice bottle at the meeting place, EH Taylor Small Batch.
Cheers! V
