Joe, this will be fixed by BMW under the new car warranty, I had it done a couple years ago
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...46758-9999.pdf

Even if you have to pay, it isn't an expensive fix. I signed the paperwork going to BMWNA for reimbursement, and it was for less than $200.

This doesn't seem to suggest it's a safety issue at all. I'm about to pull the trigger on the M performance brake upgrade so I would expect the problem to go away once that's fitted.

That's where I retired in 2012. Hanscom, not the Credit Union.

So this is how I got here. I had a detail a few weeks ago. One of the things they offered was to clean the wheel walls. The clicking started after this. I'm guessing they used a degreaser and really dried out the parts. Lesson learned. No more wheels off ceramic.

I've been away for a week, going to test if applying the brakes stops the clicking tonight. If it does I will leave it till I have my brakes upgraded and have them fit the friction disks. If not it could be coming from my M5 roll bars according to this article. Maybe they aren't torqued correctly: https://bimmerist.com/bmw-f3x-f1x-gx...hooting-guide/

Did a figure of eight test last night, applying the brakes had no effect. I think my drop links are knocking as they are a Frankenstein of G30 and F90 items. I might need to check the torque or look at adjustable aftermarket items.

Yeah, my issue isn't impacted while braking or not. It does it under either condition. I am at the dealer now. I have a feeling I am going to be writing a check for something. She said if it's brake related it is not covered under CPO. My indie told me there is nothing wrong with it and the detailer caused it by drying out the pads. It's a matter of if I can live with it. Brakes are at 5mm. We will see.

No luck with the dealer. They didn't even pop off a wheel. They recommended the shims that I already did last week and also used my spacers as a back drop. I obviously declined as I already performed the TSB and I know it is not my spacers. They said everything is working fine, no safety issues, which I already knew. ///M brakes are noisy. My indie shop offered to lubricate everything in the braking system. I will take them up on it and live with the results, hopefully better.

By the way, these shims or friction rings are not covered under CPO. Dealer wanted $568. My indie charged me $300. Parts are $120.

Here's my attempt pick it up. Like I said touching the brakes didn't make it go away. I hope it's not CV joints.

Sounds exactly like mine. My issues started right after a detail and a wheels off.

Today I brought it back to my local shop for the third time. First was a check after the detail, second was for the TSB friction rings and today because they are worse than ever.

What he discovered was that every time he works on the car the lugs are loose, even though he torqued them to spec.

He believe the detailer over torqued my lugs and stretched them. Even today, they lubed up the brakes and cleaned the hubs, torqued the lugs and went for a test drive. Came back lugs were loose.

Umm slightly tighter than specc. Slacked them all off and reset at 105lbs I doubt it's going to be the fix but will see if it sounds less clacky tomorrow.

I'm picking mine up in the morning with stick lugs and spacers removed. Will report back as well.

Update: nah still clicky. Next cheapest easiest thing is to try new sway bar links. Should have those by tomorrow.

With mine I've had it looked at four times. Every time I leave it's better and then the lugs loosen and it starts again. So my issue is probably different.

I was running Dinan lugs. I think my issue is that my detailer over torqued them and stretched them out.

The good news is that it's fixed and quiet. The bad news is I miss my spacers. Shop is going to try and get Dinan to replace the fronts and all the lugs.
