September 26, 2016 Update

The G30 5 Series has been spotted with what is likely the minimal amount of camouflage we'll see before its official full reveal. Most of the car is now revealed except for the side character line and parts of the front and rear end. The sedan prototype spotted here is the 530e plug in hybrid version.

G30 5 Series Sedan and G31 Touring With Minimal Camouflage

Ok, this is hybrid PoS, no reason to panic yet
Without M package and with this wheels it looks dull, weak, underwhelming...
And why is it so elevated from the wheels?

But I'm sure that the real 5er with M package will be a completely different story.

Yes, this is basic g30 with 17", gonna look just as boring as the basic f10.
M-sport, bigger wheels and lowering will fix that as always.

The more they peal off the camouflage, the more it looks like a current F10/11. Except from the head lights maybe.

That of course, is not a bad thing, but nevertheless, a bit more daring approach would have been appreciated. Maybe still a bit traumatised by the Bangle criticism?

I hope it delivers in the technology department, and I don't refer to the gizmo's like autopark and top 360° view. I hope it delivers in the driving department. I would appreciate they return to their original mojo and reclaim the top position as a driver's car in this segment.

I'm not the only one that thought that. 2 series has the 2nd best looking face in the BMW lineup IMO.

Ugh, another boring design from BMW. What happened to the days when a new model actually meant a new model, not the same thing. E34-E39-E60-F10. Same with E32-E38-E65-F01. These cars looked very different from their predecessors. Now with F10-G30 they look the same. Just like F01-G12. They look the same. These designs are getting stale. I never thought I would actually admit this but BMW has truly lost its way and the glory days are over. What a shame.

Well actually all the 5ers have looked very similar besides the E60. Regarding the 7er, the E65 was a bit out there from the tail but was corrected with the LCI. Overall BMW has always shown a gradual progression in styling. With all that being said, the G30 does look a little too close to comfort to the F10. The F10 is a remarkable-looking car though, it's difficult to improve on such handsome styling

What I'm more concerned about is the interior design, which based on what I've seen from the G11 will be a big "meh." The driving dynamics likely won't impress either.

I hope that BMW AG makes a better choice of wheels. These wheels are really hideous and outdated.

Maybe it's just me but I'd take Bangle's designs over anything they're selling today. I still turn my head every time I see an E6X pass by. Bangle's BMW's were ahead of their time and still look fresh compared to the Mercs and Audis of the time which look outdated today.

I have to say that as an owner of e61s and f11s, this new car looks pretty ordinary - let's hope that final tweeks, a decent set of 19"s and M Sport livery will make it worth trading in an f10/11...!?

These are the 17" and 18" wheels that will be sold with base specifications of 518d and 520d especially to first customers and multiple fleet customers.
The wheels on the Hybrid are aerodynamically honed to assist the cars aerodynamics.

it is so similar to a f10 , the only significan difference I can see is the sloping boot (trunk) lid compared to the current flat one.

looking at the dashbiard , is that a wider HUD that I can see?

Wait for the side line. Something that BMW has never done before

Wait for the front

In general....as well as happened with the 7 series.... it will be similar to the previous one but done right.

Anyway once they've brought back the hood line to the place that shouldn't have ever left, BMW designs are on the right way again

Hybrids have ugly wheels for aerodynamics. A solid disc would be best apparently . These look better than the wheels on my old Honda Civic hybrid actually.

So Scott, because I'am a salary slave, I earn to have ugly wheels on my car? That sounds like a very good business development strategy when the E class widely trumps in every domain and the new A6 is lurking to get some own victories... When the G30 isn't an instant marvel to look at, it will cost BMW immediately 1000, heck 100.000s of cars.

honed for aero... I hope you don't believe this crap they tell you at the HQs. It's utterly none sense they try to put in your head!!! Or are you stating that these ugly wheels contribute 0,0001 gr/co2 in lab environments and that salary slaves have to contribute this penny value. What??

Do you live in Europe or just recently?
Smaller wheel options have always been the mainstay at BMW or any manufacturer. Remember when an E34 535i came with plastic hub-caps as standard with full cross-spoke alloys extra?

The E-Klasse is the same but its not trumping every domain.
The reviews state that there is several areas the E-Klasse remains lacking.
