Is the Dinan exhaust worth the upgrade from stock?

So here’s my dilemma I was rear ended this week. The damage is to my bumper, cover rear diffuser, and the right tail pipe was crushed.

Because the exhaust tip is incorporated into the muffler I believe my insurance company is going to replace the entire rear muffler which is almost $2000. I may have the option to substitute the dining exhaust instead of the OEM exhaust system.

It would probably be an extra seven or $800 out of my pocket to make the swap. Seems like a relatively inexpensive way to upgrade. I’m just curious if for those of you who have purchased it if you really think it sounded a lot better?

I did not do the resonator delete and I guess for a couple hundred bucks I could always just do that and get maybe equivalent of sound improvement and just leave the system stock??

My other thought was if they replacing my rear diffuser maybe I would put on the M5 style diffuser on the back since the painting, the rear portion of my car I could have it painted kind of like a base and five we’re all the trim is color matched, and the center portion would be black or carbon fiber.. I believe the shape of the diffuser has different cutouts, which might fit the cut outs for the Dinan exhaust better??

It's certainly worth it, in my opinion.

The Dinan exhaust iswell-balancedd; it improves the sound without making it to loud or obnoxious.

Does anyone know if the Dinan system for an M550 fits onto the rear diffusers meant for the M5’s?

I’m thinking of upgrading to the Dinan exhaust and swapping my rear bumper/diffuser to an M5 style…

Since you live in California I would recommend it. Especially if this is your daily driven car. I think your expectations just need to be realistic about what you'll be getting out of a Dinan exhaust. Its more subtle and tame but is honestly a lot better than stock.

Does anyone know if the Dinan tips can be adjusted as to how far they stick out? I’ve seen some pics online and the tips seem to protrude out too far for me… but not sure if that is how they set…or if you can adjust them in/out…..

Dinan is nice kit. I wouldn't turn it down for $800-ish. Perfect blend of sound and drivability/no fatigue.

How loud does it get in sport? I’m looking to go this route myself and I want something that has some noise to it.

I can’t tell if this or Remus would be a bette option.

I currently have one. I have a 540i with the dinan exhaust paired with AA catted downpipe and MST Intake. Like what other said, the exhaust is very subtle and have nice deep tone sound when on comfort mode. You can still hear the burble and pop too. Sports + modes it sounds really aggressive but not too obnoxious. Would highly recommend it. I was trying to upload a video sound clip but it's not letting me

So do you think that Dinan exhaust sounds better than stock? I have heard some sound clips on YouTube early to tell if it’s any different than stock.

The tips are definitely fucking huge!

I am in the unique position because someone rear ended my car and I am about to have to buy a new bumper diffuser and exhaust my stock muffler was crushed

My insurance company is going to give me 1800-ish to buy a new stock muffler and a Dinan is 2500 so literally it’s gonna cost me 700 out-of-pocket, if I want to upgrade to Dinan.

Maybe that is a no-brainer.

The only issue I have with that exhaust is there in the photographs I have seen online the stock tips stick out in my opinion too far

I am assuming that I could probably push them and father or cut the stock piping and make it more flush

Yeah. I think it’s a quad for the m550. It’s from R W Carbon

Dinan exhaust will enhance the sell ability of the car vs. Remus. Dinan on a BMW is equivalent to location in real estate. I don’t have it and have only had a few Dinan bits I’ve bought on the secondary market over the years. Stuff holds its value. You could get the exhaust and trade an existing m550i owner for their exhaust plus lotsa cash. Motor cash than you are going to shell out. If you were close I’d do the swap in a NY minute.

I totally missed this tag from a week ago. Always happy to share my thoughts on my system. I also have been PM'ing with 23109VC , but it can't hurt to put my perspective into a thread for future use.

The Dinan system is significant upgrade over stock, nothing to worry about there. It is very different though from just about any of the other options, such as Remus. It is a smooth, engineered sound. It purrs more than pops or crackles. It is not a "look at me" exhaust. It is not a rolling gun fight. It is an ear catcher from people that admire cars or car enthusiasts. Not so much from the Honda crowd that like the sound of coffee cans hanging off the back.

It is not cheap though and it is NOT worth doing unless you spring for the X mid-pipe. Simply putting on the axle-back won't yield much except a nice look of quad tips. I also added the valve remote and the valves are never closed. I have absolutely no regrets. I love the look and I love the sound.

I think I have posted this picture about 50 times here, but I still never get tired of it.

I completely agree. Some people will disagree and say that Dinan isn't the same Dinan with it's sale, etc. But people still associate Dinan with BMW as a BMW approved mod or add-on. It adds value, just peruse Bring a Trailer. It simply has a tastefully integrated reputation. I have done just about every Dinan modification offered except springs. There is something about having a Dinan modified BMW that carries weight, it is a recognized name.

No, I will never put a Dinan badge on my car, even if I did the springs and earned it.

Lol! I gave you a great write up with plenty of kudos though!

I’m not into badging or flexing. The Dinan label on the tips is plenty.
