Please Advise: Instrument Cluster issue on 2019 BMW M550i

Hello,

I'm having an issue with my 2019 BMW M550i and I'm not sure if its something that can be addressed in the settings or if its a coding problem.

I don't have the full digital instrument cluster on my car. Was kind of disappointed when I first saw the car but I got a great deal on it so it wasn't a deal breaker for me.

However... every other M550i I've seen (even those without the full digital cluster) has RED dials when in SPORT mode. That goes for every new model BMW I've been in.

On my 2019 M550i, when I put the car in Sport mode, the cluster design does change, but instead of it turning red it remain grey as it does in comfort mode. Doesn't matter if I put it in sport, sport plus, or individual. It's all the same - grey.

Eco mode works fine and the dash does have the blue display..

Is this something I can change in the settings in iDrive? Ive been going through all the settings and can't get it right. Or is this a change for 2019 models? I hope not. It looks so much better in red.

I am attaching a photo of my M550i in sport mode and you will see the instrument cluster design remains gray. And I will also attach a photo of a friend's X3 where it turns red in sports mode as it does on every other car. Another friend has a 2018 M550i and his also turns red when in sports mode. Whats going on here? Any help or advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I have seen a similar question recently... someone else had a similar issue.

Does this help?
Anyone knows what happened to the red color on sport mode? https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1534606

It's a 2019 thing. Same on my G30. Don't know if it can perhaps be coded back?

Very helpful. I see I'm not alone with this issue. Thank you for taking the time to post the link. My research skills suck apparently. I tried to find this topic but I guess I didn't try hard enough.

Sucks. I just called my guy who did some coding for me on my car. He said he will try to find the coding and will get back to me today. I will keep you posted.

I have a 2019 M550 and have found the same with my cluster. Always grey in sport. When I test drove the M550 (2018), sport mode was red and comfort was grey.

My comfort mode cluster on my 2019 is sometimes red, sometimes grey. I have not been able to determine why the cluster is sometimes red and sometimes grey in comfort. It is always grey in sport.

Its a night mode - When the car senses it gets darker outside, the comfort mode cluster goes red.

Mine in sport mode is always red, regardless of day or night.

That's because the OP has the newer cluster on the 2019 models.

I would also think the gray tone is more bearable on the eyes than the red at night.

Interesting that BMW has not developed an orange digital cluster for night driving. For many, many years, old analog BMW clusters lit up in orange at night, as my late E90 did.

It sounds similar to the f10 when they changed the red lines at the bottom of the cluster from red to gray , I think this was at lci time. There was the option to code it either way as well.

I would actually prefer to have the gauges in grey when in Sport mode. I don't find the red color particularly comfortable at night.

I will ask the dealer to see if this can be changed on my next visit.

I wouldn't get your hopes up , but no harm in asking ( they will have to ask Bmw themselves)

Good news. The 2019's CAN be coded to have sport mode displayed in RED just like the 2018s. I just had mine done and I like it so much better. It looks SPORTIER as it should. I'm in NYC so if anyone wants to get in touch with the guy I used just send me a private message.

It actually looks better this way.

You should celebrate.
