Love the car but it has the strongest new car smell I've ever come in counter with. I'm not talking about the BMW air conditioner smell. This is full on glue, paint plus some leather. Granted it was straight out of the factory 4-5 weeks ago but damn it's strong. I'm considering using the fragrance option (no idea if it came w cartridges or if I have to buy). Either way it's near headache inducing. Almost takes away from the awesomeness of everything else.

Anyone has opinions?

Do not have that problem in my M5. It has the least offensive and lightest new car smell in any car I've ever had and mine was straight out of the factory to me as well. I get a little leather odor and that's it, none of the usual plastic smell I expect.

If it was just the normal plastic smell you could probably use some type of a dash protector (something like Armor All) to seal it in, but if you're smelling glue and paint, those aren't exposed normally, so covering them won't help.

Maybe an ionic air purifier would help?

The smell in my service loaner X5 is stronger than in any other cars that I've had, and it's several months old with 1600 miles on it (when I got it, now approaching 1900).

Leaving the windows down, sunroof open helps. You may not have a secure garage to do that though. It gets better with time.

Although....

I remember a post somewhere on a forum where a woman had bought a new G20 (I think) and complained of similar issues, I think she finally got it resolved... I'll see if I can find it.

BTW, the absolute worst stinky new car I've had was a C7 Corvette. Smelled like a model airplane. I had that car over a year, left the windows down, hatch open when parked in the garage, it stunk until the day I got rid of it.

For total obnoxious stink, it was my used F01, which was traded in on the G30.

Exactly!! Sunroof open, all windows down. About 8 hours of continuous driving should solve the problem. Also should get you to some nearby twisties for a thrilling day of driving. Enjoy. BTW, if you need to hire a driver to do it for you, I might be available........just sayin'.

I had a similar experience with a loaner I received (2020 330i) recently.

I love the new car smell as I think others would probably agree. However, this smell wasn't the typical new car smell that you think of. It was more of a rubber/vinyl or glue smell and it was quite strong. So much so that after I would drive it to/from the hospital, my scrubs would still have that smell on them.
