There is no mystery. The vehicle manufacturer gets a cut of the proceeds, the tire manufacturer sells more tires to the targets. Collusion for dough.

Same as it always was.

We Europeans and particularly us Brits like the Michelin Ps4S (now PS5 here) or the Pirelli PZero4. As for the star mark it has nothing to do with being ripped off. The construction of the tyre is different and most importantly it is of a guaranteed circumference. Really important with X drive. Run more than 2/3mm tread difference across the same axle and you'll be shagging the transfer box in no time.

I've been driving AWD cars for quite a long time here in this lovely part of the old country--on the Autobahns, in the Alps, on the Nürburgring, and in every country west of Romania.

Never once did I have an issue with tire circumference discrepancies due to wear creating problems for the drive system.

BMW claims that only star tires can guarantee the "BMW driving experience."

What that magical experience is, ofc, remains quite nebulous.

Man, you know everything and have done everything and have driven so much more than anyone else. You must be a fun guy to hang out with.

So you’re abandoning your claim without acknowledging you were mistaken that they cost more after peppering us with comments on how dealers reap the benefits of upcharging for the star (not true), to now it’s the auto maker who reaps the benefits and are getting paid for the star?

Man, stop making shit up.

BTW, we’ve all been driving AWD cars for a long time Nassar.

Any updates on what the star magic is? No?

You may have set a record for random insults.

Oh, there’s nothing random, it’s all pointed at you for your condescending ignorance.

Any update on support for your claims?

I think there is a record number of messages in my inbox saying, that guy is a prick doiche. Nothing random. You get what you get when you’re the forum troll.

You have a lot of nerve. Go back and read your antagonistic follow ups that actually started this.

You’re a guy that most likely has a drinking problem that gets behind the keyboard. It takes some sauce to be the asshole you’ve been. I’d bet my star tires on it, Nassar.

You can add me to the list and I’ll say it here.

Thing is Nassar, you often make good points but do so in such a condescending manner that it’s hard not to be tempted to respond in kind. Your grinning smilies aren’t cute and aren’t fooling anyone. Then you blame people you’ve successfully ragebaited for “emoting.”

Especially in subjective areas, there’s room for varying viewpoints. In objective ones, there’s room for healthy debate. You make either a challenge. And if you’re really hitting the bottle before getting on the keyboard, stop.

I’d have thought that the video 430Scud posted would have been reason enough to justify the star mark

You see Chaps, he’s literally going out of his way to be a douche in some sick narcissistic way. He’s ignored the healthy discussion in this thread and has continued to stir the pot with “any update….”

He honestly doesn’t give a shit about that video. He’s more entertained by being a prick predator. Coward.

Yeah is unfortunate, I thought with him being a fellow G31 owner & maybe that he’d been in Germany too long & it was just ‘Zat crazy German sense of humour’ I’d give him the benefit the doubt but he’s proved to be a sarky fucker & not funny with it either, so I just cant be bothered now.

I hope his bloody diff explodes because of not using BMW star marked tyres

I am looking to replace my tyres, I knew they were due soon but a nail in my rear run flat means Im swapping sooner rather than later.

Are the tyres for £260 not suitable as they do not have a star?

I found this an informative and useful thread, but it is now becoming less fun. Can't we stick to facts and analysis rather than personal attacks? Just my $.02.--Bob

Thank you, I enjoyed the video. It was very informative.
I don’t plan to track my car but I’m impressed with the technical details that provide improvements in grip and stability, even if it’s just driving on the highway. Emergency braking or evasion— I can see where this will be to your advantage.

Is obviously up to you but I’d go for the ‘designed for BMW’ MPS4, in fact I recently did but went with the ZP version

Ive been told that MPS4S are much better than MPS4? Not sure that MPS4S have a BMW specific set.
