What car would compliment an M550 well?
Hello,
So I have an M550 which I love. I'm thinking for the summer since I recently sold my 2013 427 Vette. That I might replace for another fun car. Has to be manual. Thinking m3 or 4. Not new though. Also I have to for it in. I'm 6 feet 230. . Maybe the M550 will be enough but just thinking of vert. Let me know your thoughts on any cars you would consider. None is also an option. Lol |

Enjoy the M550i for a while and see if in 6 months down the road you still have the need to add a garage beauty queen. It seems to me that you suffer from the "Imelda Marcos" syndrome. If you could own many cars sitting in a garage just to look at them and never drive them...

The new Mazda MX-5 (Miata) is getting rave reviews since its redo last year. Smooth manual, lightest car sold in U.S. and affordable. The Club Manual includes Recaro seats and nice wheels.
No its not a german masterpiece, but for $30K ish, it's the opposite of the G30 - light, turnable and a butter soft manual.

If you want to stay in the BMW route, find an M235i/M240i convertible with a 6MT (although could be very rare) or maybe even a Z4 or 128i/135i. If your getting a summer car you might as well get a convertible.
I'd also recommend a Porsche 718 Boxster, or a used/older 6 cylinder Boxster as well if you go outside of BMW, my wife and I love ours, its got sharp and communicative steering, great handling, and the manual trans is really good. You didn't mention any price, but if you want something cheap buy a new or used ND Miata, they're fun, lightweight, but still super fun to drive, and feel like older cars where you have to work for the power. Or you could buy no new car, but then again, you only live once. |

Depends what you want. Vintage? Modern? Cruiser? Sports car?
My weekend / fun car is an R8. Perfect match to the 535i M Sport for daily. Exotic looks with german engineering. good resale too. Having 2 cars helps you love each of them more. Not sure a BMW is special enough for a weekend toy. I'd go R8, older 911, Boxter. Something that contrasts your 550i.

Well I'll chime in with my choice: my 2016 Corvette Z06. I put about 5,000 miles a year on both the Z06 and the BMW. With a 2 car garage I have them on a lift but it only takes about 5-7 minutes to swap them when the weather changes. Since the Z06 does 0-60 in 2.95 seconds according to GM, I actually opted for the 540xi rather than the M550, as I get my go-fast kicks in the Z06. You can get surprisingly good deals on C7 (7th generation) Corvettes now as the new C8 is on the horizon. The C7 is a very competent and comfortable car. Mine is an automatic, which is a really great transmission with paddle shifters that I actually use, but manuals are available. Probably can get a good deal on a manual if a dealer has one, as about 70%-80% of new Vettes are sold with the 8 speed autos. Buying a new one gets you a heavily discounted 2 day session at the Ron Fellows Spring Mountain NV HPDE, which is a very good way to learn the car's capabilities and explore closer to its limits than you can on the street. Anyway, that's my vote. --Bob
