Muffler delete or axle back exhaust?

I have a 2018 G30 540i M sport. I just recently installed a downpipe and tuned it. I’m stage2 91 Octane. A guy at AutoZone was telling me it would be better to get an axle-back exhaust system versus just cutting off the muffler because supposedly that will damage the valves, has anyone that did a muffler delete noticed their valve get damaged or had to replace it?

I... Woudn't really take advice from an Autozone employee, in general. I'm not an expert but I watch A LOT of car build/mod youtube and I've never hear this. Maybe it's an extension of the age old "back pressure" argument?

Anyway, I wouldn't go straight pipes/muffler delete, either way. Sounds like garbage on these cars, imo.

LOL! I had the same reaction. You mean the Autozone employee that knows nothing about autoparts? LOL.

OP - it will sound like complete shit with a muffler delete and you will be "that guy" in a BMW that sounds like a Honda with a coffee can exhaust. If you are hell bent on downpipes, straight pipes, etc. Your best bet is to join the G30 Facebook Group where there are owners more your profile.

I'm not saying there aren't knowledgeable AZ techs out there, I'm just saying I haven't found one yet that was even close to my knowledge, and I'm just a DIY car guy. No formal or professional mechanic experience.

I went to an AZ to drop off a 5 gallon can of used oil. The droid behind the counter told me there was a 20qt limit. I said, well, 5 gallons is 20 quarts as there are 4 quarts to a gallon. She argued with me and insisted that there were 5 quarts in a gallon. I told her that unless there has been a drastic change in liquid measurements recently, there are 4 quarts in a gallon. She insisted there were 5 quarts in a gallon as they sold gallon jugs with 5 quarts in them. I walked her over to the oil and showed her the label on the "gallon" jug where it said one gallon + one quart, which equals 5 quarts in the (not a) gallon jug. She was shocked and said you learn something new every day! She HAD to be at least a high school junior! I thought basic measurements were an elementary school thing...

Where's the facepalm emoji...

I bet she knows 1000 emoji code sayings, though, and has like 5 TikTok accounts. You know, the important things.

I've really started to see some disturbing similarities between how media interacts with me and the way it did in that movie, lately. The way that social medial and youtube feeds are starting to do ads, and other content that you didn't ask to see, the way that it gets populated on the screen, and the way the bajillion ads populate on even legit webpages like weather.com is really starting to give me this vibe! (Sorry, OP. I won't hijack your thread anymore.)

OP - forget the valves, I would do an axle back exhaust system so it will have a quality sound. The B58 engine is awesome and it CAN sound awesome when done properly. But to me, if you just cut off the muffler and add a straight pipe it doesn’t sound great. Do that wonderful engine right and get you an axle back system. I’m biased to the deeper tone of the Dinan system but that’s just me.
