Now that I'm progressing on the track...

After 3 HDPE track days with my 2016 f80, I'm looking for suggestions on how to get more responsiveness from my car on the straights. One thought is getting comfortable with heel and toe in Sport Plus, instead of running it in Sport mode. I'm too spoiled by the automatic rev matching. Any easy boost options? Don't think I'm ready yet for stage 1 mods without swapping my crank hub first. So far the only things I've done to the set-up are Motul600 brake fluid, Hawk Hp+ pads (although I want to get Ferodos next since it's really wearing on my rotors), and Pilot Sport 4s tires. I know that's unrelated to boost, but that's the current status. Thanks in advance for your constructive advice!

No power needed. Do you have a second set of wheels for the track? If so, I'd run something stickier - RS4s last fiveever and they're cheap. Order of track mods:

1. Pads + Fluid + Tires + Camber Plates
2. Front Monoballs (eliminates front-end squirm under hard brakes)
3. Brake coding (turns off overboost function, easier modulation)

Euro MDM coding (look up Kubax remote coding services) is a good stepping stone that is far less intrusive than DSC-on (or US MDM) when you get back on throttle mid-corner and pulling out onto the straight. While you're doing that coding, he will also do GTS power steering, GTS rear diff, and GTS DCT coding.

+1 on the monoballs - will make car more planted on hard braking

Camber plates with -2.5-2.7 front camber and setting front toe to 0 dramatically improves turn-in and also reduces shoulder wear on tires

Recommend PFC 08s for pads - will last forever (they're endurance racing pads) and I've read they're relatively easy on rotors. Alternatively, PFC 11 has more bite, less squeal on the street but lasts a bit shorter.

Also heard great things about Conti ECFs as a very long-lasting tire (they're endurance racing tires made in collaboration with Hoosier) that are faster than Michelin Cup 2's, but a bit pricier than RS4s I believe. Will personally be trying the ECFs next season

Mechanical grip before more power is probably best - i.e. coilovers before a tune. But I've been running Bootmod3 stage 1 -20% torque reduced for >1,000 track miles and 8,000 street miles on a stock crank hub with no issues FWIW. More important is 1-step colder NGK spark plugs if you're going to do a tune.

After 3 track days, please continue to get seat time before pursuing power. Of everything you need, this is the least important

Camber plates would be a good next step. I'd keep the stock wheels for now, they are not slowing you down. Track pads are also a good idea.

Also new to tracking (this season was my second year).

Biggest difference was switching from mpss to RE71s. Much more confident in the car afterwards on both the handling and braking fronts. I don’t have a dedicated set of wheels for “track only” tires so the RE71s are a good compromise as you can still drive them in the rain, granted you are careful. Otherwise would have picked up a set of nankang CRS.

Yah add camber plates to top of the list - my bad for assuming everyone thinks of those automatically. Very necessary to keep tire wear in check.

OP, you have found the wrong crowd.
We can help you spend money, and also have fun.
I have modified and tracked to M4’s and I am not done yet.

Yep, power is last thing you need. Most of your lap time (and the fun!) is figuring out how to get fast through the corners!

Good work, looks like you are having fun.

I would get a HANS next, Simpson makes a hybrid for 3pt belts.

https://www.simpsonraceproducts.com/...rts/HYSMED11PA

Like the others said...Then do camber plates and front bimmerwold monoballs then get some better brake pads as you get faster you will need them.

Absolutely get the Hans. The Hybrid is a great solution. I use one with the M3.

And I’d go so far as to say delay anything else until you have a fire suit, unders, gloves, and shoes. Fires are rare, but happen.

Then brakes and a set of track rims. I like all the other goodies being advised. But would stay OEM until your sure you’ve squeezed every last ounce out of your car.

Which ever path you take, enjoy! I love tracking.

That's kind of extreme for a stock car. Fires are exceedingly rare in a pretty stock modern car. They'll get way more mileage out of camber plates, etc. If you're worried about safety, brakes would be a way more important focus first. I'd consider all that when you're looking at seats, harness and rollbars.

Well said. Driver’s suit is not necessary for HPDE. Time attack and w2w racing absolutely but not needed for HPDE, seat time or open lapping events

Expected nothing less.

I pulled this video from my library as I think its pretty informative. As I wrote, its rare. I've seen 2 in 5 years. Both were from going off-track and colliding with a barrier, igniting the brake fluid. One went out on its own. The other required fire suppression.

Its a choice guys. Your get to choose. Be safe out there.

I appreciate the input. I've seen a Lotus catch fire this year at an HDPE event, so ya never know. I think I have to get over some imposter syndrome first. I am assuming y'all are supposed to go commando in these? May have to decorate it with some sponsorships..lol. Any vineyards interested? 😆

I wear Traqgear shirts at all track days. Not as hot as a full suit, which I also have, but better than nothing.

In any case, I think fire-related things are not low hanging fruit for street cars. Brakes, camber plates, suspension, etc are higher on my priority list. Oh, and a Simpson or other Hans style device.

Camber plates, track pads (I prefer Gloc R12/R10), 200tw tires (Conti ECF, Hankook RS4, or Kumho V730), Simpson Hybrid S & driving gloves...and there's an argument the Hybrid S should come before any car modification.

I do have a full Sparco FIA-rated firesuit/shoes/balaclava, but that's more for my wife's piece of mind than being necessary for HPDE in a street car.

I got to where you are last year and added camber plates, PFC pads, SRF fluid, separate wheels and tires, and it was a huge change and improvement. These have all been said above but as someone that just did it I'd cosign.
