I'm not sure that is going to happen. The caps are 100% center cap spec. It's the wheels that aren't consistent. Sure, normal center caps snap in hard on the same wheels the spinners don't spin, but no one notices because they still snap in fine and sit fine. It's the spinners that are temperamental.

Just buy a set and return if they don't work for you. That was my plan but they all worked fine.
I wondered if it was maybe something to do with the cab itself but I popped off other ones that spun freely they all have the same problem on the front right wheel so the issue is the wheel not the cab.

Something is pushing just enough that the little prongs that hold the spinning cab in place depressing in too far and the binding on the counter weight. I guess if I was really desperate I could try to modify one of them and either remove some of the clips that are binding or potentially sand the counter weight ever so slightly to see if that makes a difference although I'd risk destroying a set of these if it doesn't work then I can't return it

I'm debating about just sending them back I do not dislike regular center caps I thought the floating ones were cool but I like how the regular ones sit more flush with the wheels

I like my floats more for that reason. They stick out a bit, but the roundel is on a thick top so it looks really nice on the wheel and more substantial than the snap ins. But it is definitely not for everyone.

I'm with you, I love how they pop out a tad, it's like a 3D effect.

Resurrecting an old thread. Kept putting these off. Finally decided to buy them off of Amazon. $77 for the 5x112. Fit perfectly on my 668s, no spinning issues here. Love how they look and spin. Took less than 5 mins to install. I like the 3D look of them as well. So subtle and I doubt many people will even notice, but I like it lol.

So the box it came in looked like it had been opened before and re-taped shut. I shot Amazon a message asking if they were used, they apologized and offered to replace them or take a $20 credit. They looked to be in perfect condition so I took the credit. $57 overall I suppose. I'll take it as a win!

Damnnit! I lost one...and I have no idea where it could be. Was on my pass side and I never go on that side much so it could've been missing for several days without me noticing 😢

Had to put one of the reg caps back on til I figure out where I can buy 1 cap. Grr!

Damn, that sucks. I think you are going to have a tough time buying just one as they are sold as a kit.

If you bought the set directly from a dealer (not an online retailer), I believe they have a two-year warranty. You could plead your case that it fell off due to a defect in fitment and maybe they will order you a new set. Long shot but worth a try. I know they did this with the original BMW M-Performance Floor Mats where the silkscreen rubbed off. Again, long shot but worth asking your dealer. You would need a receipt that is printed off the dealer system, similar to your service receipts.

Other than that, maybe a used set off ebay where a few are tarnished and the price reflects it.

I agree with Joe-BMW33 and I would see what a dealer says about replacing them under warranty.

They are under warranty for 2Y/unlimited miles or for the duration of your new car warranty whichever is longer.

So far, mine have held up really well. But they were installed at the VPC.

Thanks guys, I'll check and report back.

I bet this happened when I saw this clapped out dodge challenger on the road yesterday, with a fart can muffler, wheels, some funny bodykit and racing stripes flying past everyone. Def not a hellcat, maybe a srt or some kind of rt. I don't usually but something about his stupid looking mods...I couldn't help myself from destroying his ego. I could hear him trying hard but it really was no competition lol. Anyway yeah, I read that "excessive speeds" can cause these things to fly off.

Leave this part out when you ask the dealer to replace under warranty

That sounds like a lot of fun!

I’ve taken my 530e to some nice speeds without an issue, but the V8 in that M550i will pack a nice punch!!

I was challenged to a pull off at a light yesterday with a 540i. Wife was in the car so I had to stay slow and not punch off. 540i would win in the long pull, but I’m convinced that the 530e would start off stronger due to the EV torque having some fun. But alas I’ll try that out another day

Stay safe out there

Wives always ruining the fun! JK. I wouldn't have done it with my wife in the car either. I'd love to drive a 530e one day just to see how it drives. I've never driven anything electric or hybrid even before.

The ladies do put a damper on our fun, and I am not kidding!

I have only been challenged once and it was from an Altima with coffee can hanging off the back. It was at night in the pouring rain and highway was pretty open. He just kept coming up next to me and placing his car nose to nose with mine. Call me a wuss, but at night in the pouring rain against a car that literally has no chance ain't my thing.

It’s the future of performance IMHO.

The EV motor allows you to counter balance the major negative of modern engines. Turbo lag. The M550i isn’t a slouch and I’m sure it delivers performance adequately, but you can feel is “building” its power as it charges the turbo to reach its performance peak. Adding an EV motor with instant torque to the mix allows you to assist that climb so the power delivery feels extremely smooth as it climbs up to the peak.

I’m sure the next M5 will have an EV motor and become a hybrid for this very reason.

Having driven my fair share of 530i loaners it is so clear driving between the two. The 530i I can hit the kick down and ask for maximum power from low speeds and you feel it lag and then once the turbo is ready and it pulls very well. Once it reaches that point the 530e and 530i very very even performance wise from my butt dyno. But that lag feels like it lasts way too long. Even with the 530e having a de-tuned version of the 530i engine…

And all that is even before you consider the other really nice extras. Like eliminating the problems of “cold starts” where the engine can be slowly brought up to temperature with the EV motor carrying the weight until it does so performance never feels low and you get a longer lasting engine as a result.

I’ll stop now

I totally see what you're saying and that'll be excited. I do hate my turbo lag, esp when I need to make a quick left turn or something from a standstill. I do love my gas engines, but I like the idea of having some electric power in there to assist with turbo lags, start ups, and mpg obviously lol

That’s the thing with 4-cylinder (and most 6-cylinder) turbo engines. They are still 4-cylinder dogs until the turbos kick in at 3-4K rpm’s.

For anyone that cares. I got my floating caps from Amazon not the dealer, so I just did a quick online chat with them and told them the package comes with 4, one flew off and I don't know where it went. I'd like to return it. Thankfully I had only gotten it a few months ago. They said no problem, return the 3 caps and well refund or exchange it. Gotta love that Amazon customer service!

Nice. I bought something for my E39 last week that I did not realize was not returnable, Stabilant 22A if you care to know. It was $70 and didn't work.
I online chatted with a robot and the robot refunded me the entire amount and told me to keep it as a courtesy. A lot of people and companies complain about Amazon being the three headed monster, but other companies should take notes from them.

Yep, I'm trying to troubleshoot the wiring harness connection with the throttle body. Trying to avoid having a new wiring harness installed $$$$.

20 year old cars are a challenge. I completely understood why it wasn't returnable, but I figured it was worth a shot. I only used a drop or two from the Visine size bottle. Now I have my money back and still have the product.

Ugh I'm so annoyed. Some asshole at Columbia Mall in MD stole my floating hubcaps off my car, while it was parked in the parking lot this morning. I was parked for all of 30 mins to drop my kids off at a bday party. I can't believe the audacity of this person...and it was raining! Drove around all day with no centercaps, it felt naked! Finally got home and put my stock ones back on for now. I needed to vent, so here I am! 😠😡🤬
