Project Maybach Concept:

Concepts are concepts, at this stage though the XM is likely to proceed to production, the Maybach is not likely to be anywhere near a Mercedes dealer

They (BMW) aren't making cars for us anymore they are making cars for the future us and our children who are into the looks and styles that the new cars come with. I take my hat off to BMW for always leading the charge for innovation and technology as well as breathtaking designs no matter what our personal opinion of them are.
Can your children afford $150,000+ cars? That's great.
Obviously some people can't afford an education either and it's free. Do you know the meaning of a concept? That is the way BMW is headed in the future meaning our kids will be adults by the time production models look the way this concept looks now.
This "concept" is 90% of a production model that will be built starting next year.

We also don't know how much of the XM concept would make into production.

The i4 production looks quite different from i4 concept.

Even if the Project Maybach may not make into production, they usually use concept cars to "preview" future design directions.

The i4 looks very similar to the i4 Concept, maybe not the original iVisionDynamics, but the i4 is very clearly a derivative of the i4 Concept with the usual production aspects (head and taillights) being changed. BMW has already said this XM concept represents 90% of its intended production vehicle. The Maybach concept has very little influence on the entirety of MB and is clearly more a cool one-off design, while the XM's design aspects will influence more models (new 7er, X7 LCI, etc).

It's good to see Shumen in Bulgaria being utilised as the core location for principal film and photography at the Creators Of The State Installation overlooking the city.
Principal photography took place in Shumen in September.

Exterior wise? You are looking at around 90% production.
The face of the XM is the new look of the GKL-Klasse of BMW models to be prominent on the X7 LCI and The new 7.

For whatever reason I don't hate this as much now. I think we are all conditioned to ugly BMW designs now by disasters like the iX and 4-series. As a result this isn't as bad.

The XM is a bit of a hodgepodge of some really interesting design elements. I don't think it works cohesively the way say the handsome X5 does, but it does look bold and makes a statement.

Nailed the Shock and failed the Awe.

I give up BMW. You win.

Maybe we've just too different now you and I. I wish you the best in life.

The first rendering looks quite good. The size of the headlights makes the size of the grille look almost normal and acceptable. However, the c pillar has been massively reduced and side profile character lines have been erased which won't happen in all likelihood.

What I mostly dread is the headlights in the second rendering 😁

The worst exterior design direction of any marque I've seen in a very long time coupled with an equally poor model nomenclature.

I am not quite sure if you are trying to be insulting, but it's irrelevant. As someone else posted, you are looking at 90% of this design to be on the road in about 2 years.

BTW my teenage son drives a stickshift E46, his pick. Just because BMW puts it out there, doesn't mean young people will automatically like it. Will future buyers be conditioned to like this design? Who knows.

You absolutely can make bold design work and not be awkward.

I am impressed that was filmed in Shumen Bulgaria…
This is indeed extremely relevant for the design…

Can I propose that for the next film to pick a suggestive and related location like Almhult, Ikea’s headquarter?

BMW boss Frank van Meel disclosed that "Rockstar" was the internal project name for the BMW XM.

IMHO the "Rockstar" moniker better befits the Jeff Koons BMW M3 GT2 dropped on Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) in Norway back in 2010.

It says 80 to 90% of this design will be in the production car. I guarantee you that the awkward looking parts such as the funky front lights and the crazy roof will not be carried over in their current shape. The light stripes around the grille will hopefully be gone, too.
