18 inch wheels 2020 M550

My brother just signed a paperwork on 2020 M550. The car does NOT have DHP and came with optional 20 inch wheels (arggghh). Dealer refused to swap them for 19s, claiming the CPO cars must leave the lot with the equipment coded to the VIN —weird and senseless. Why would CPO care what size BMW wheels a BMW car leaves the car lot?

Anyways, normal ride is paramount for him and you can’t have it with 20s riding on 30 profile tires . 19s are really still inappropriately tired at 40 profile front, 35 rear. 18s will get him 45 profile front and 40 rear which should be about proper to not be too overly concerned with road condition and cringing when the car’s structure shudders on impact.

So, what BMW 18 wheels will maintain staggered set up and fit over 2020 M550’s brakes?

Thanks!

This is the car he just picked up:

Have a look at this
https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1364915
That might help but (happy to be corrected) I thought the msport brakes were large and only allowed 19 or 20 inch wheels
I’m sure someone will be along to confirm either way
Another thing to consider
If the smallest you can go for is 19, how about normal tyres?
It would however mean carrying a spare or a repair kit with you depending upon how you feel about that

So my understanding when I was looking at 550’s was that 18s won’t clear the brakes. However, several here are running 1 size up in profile with zero issues, so run a 45/40 on 19s. I’m looking at wheels now and planning to do just that.

Those sizes will throw off speedometer reading

Well I suppose the hope then is that the now optimistic speedometer would actually reflect true ground speed with a one size up tire, which I don't consider a bad thing at all, in fact I prefer accuracy lol.

the M550i standard brake spec is the M340i upgrade M Performance brake spec.

there are some 18" wheels that will clear the brakes, but not all.

maybe ask in the G20 forums

note that the offset is slightly different for G30 vs G20

all the best
