Retrofit would be involved as it would require a different dash piece as well. I think it was an X5 that shows “CD Prep” or some such thing. It leads one to believe there is a dealer installed unit for the glove box or something like that, but I don’t find it.
Just looked up X5 standard equipment. It says “CD Player Pre Wiring”. But I don’t find a CD player as either an option or an accessory. Just found this. It’s for an X5, but I’m sure the G30 unit would be the same. Does not play DVDs according to this. It is enough that it could sway me away from another BMW. But I bet that other manufacturers are likely going to do the same. Very disappointing. https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/at...4379681#page18

For the looks of it, you will have to replace the entire head unit with one that has the DVD/CD player. And that is assuming you can even get the part. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...530i&mg=65 And beside the rear passenger center console mounted DVD/CD player entertainment system, could not find a factory option for a trunk or glove box mounted CD player changer.

If one was that determined to have a CD/DVD Player, adding the one from the Rear Seat Entertainment would definitely be an easier solution, especially if you only do the drive and don't add in the screens. However, be aware that the drive you try to retrofit would be different depending on if you have iDrive 6 or iDrive 7, as iDrive 7 models use a different wiring system in the car for audio and the two are not interchangeable. |

It seems like an expensive and frustrating endeavor.

Front fogs are not optional, as in something that can be ordered on any 5-er (in the USA, at least). Front fogs are standard on M-Sport models, and just plain not available on the other models.

They used to be standard across the board and then made optional in MY2018 onwards.

To get the CD/DVD on a 2020 G30 if you don't have it, the options at this point look like a headunit swap, which as mentioned above is very challenging, or to retrofit the Rear Seat Entertainment, which has it own challenges, but is less complicated from a coding/software standpoint. I agree as well but I think as long as they keep the 550 slotted between 540 and M5 it won't get much of a HP treatment. Have to keep that fine line even when "lower" models start to creep on the numbers.
