Choose the look you want. I wanted straight cut 4 inch. You will need to find a shop skilled enough. I went to Lou's Custom Exhaust in Marlborough MA.

Great work!! Looks awesome! Curious, what did you pay the shop for the work? Also what size did you get?

I got the straight cut 4" tips. The shop actually cut the back of the tips to make it work since they are like 9 inches long so inlet size didn't matter. The shop charged me $400 and it took them 4hrs roughly.

Wow, that's the best job I have seen yet in terms of getting tips welded onto the stock muffler.

Any chance you have some pictures from underneath after install before the heat shield and diffuser were put on?

Clean or Frankenstein?

We are almost twins from the rear, except I'm out $4,500 bucks! Nice job.

I do not have pictures from underneath but can most certainly take some and post it later today. I really want to dish out the cash for the Dinan but the thought of quad 4" looks for several thousand just didn't sit well. Ultimately that is the only reason I would have purchased an aftermarket exhaust, its the looks. I think with the X pipe (resonator delete) and stock muffler it sounds perfect. The guy at the exhaust shop does great work and I showed him pictures of the Dinan and how the tips sit for reference since that was the look I was going for therefore I chose tips that are similar to Dinan. He said he would make it look like the picture but pushed more in, a more flush look I guess. The alignment came out spot on on both sides. He used a level and string to perfect the look.

Cool, yeah I am just curious how the welds look because I have heard how hard it is to do. Looks friggin awesome. Not gonna lie, the main reason I did the Dinan was for the look. Could have saved a lot of money with a resonator delete and did what you did, especially since I could have used the same shop as you.

Welds look acceptable in my opinion.

Damn buddy, that looks amazing. If you get a chance to do a cold start, i'd love to hear it with resonator deletes and the bigger pipes.

More than acceptable. Good work there. You got a good guy who did it. That is a very sharp angle, which is why most shops won't try.

Did they drop the muffler, do the work and then pin it back up? Looks like he has a few pieces in there to make the turn.

It sounds like ever other M550i with an X pipe and resonator delete. The exhaust tips do absolutely nothing for sound. Tips are just a cosmetic finisher to the muffler in reality. I will say in Sport+ the crackles and pops can be very aggressive if you are driving like you stole it. I can certainly durn the down since I am tuned on BM3.

Joe, I am not sure if they dropped the muffler, I highly doubt it but I could be wrong. I was not there while they performed the work. I can there are no leaks so the welds are good all around. I have been going to this guy for years, he pays great attention to detail and he talked me into pushing the tips in for a more flush look as opposed to how the Dinan tips sit. I think either way I would have been more than satisfied. He does spray all his welds after with high temp black paint to look better and protect. I think this and the LCI tail lights are the biggest cosmetic changes, the aggressive look of the tips and how well they fill the diffuser opening just completes the look.

Got it. I am just admiring the work and wondering if he did all that in the tight area without dropping it. I know nothing about this stuff! Just purely curious how he welded 360 degrees.

Looks good, I'll keep an eye out for you. Easy to spot.

BMW makes an OEM one, but most of us have this one
https://www.ebay.com/itm/224301797747

Its specific to the M550i given the exhaust opening width is larger
