The dealers paint chip guy did my car when I got it and he did a good job. Couple hundred bucks, maybe less. Here is my car - it’s the 7 year (supposedly) Ceramic Pro. My guy did it for $1,200 but would normally charge $2,000 or so. He also has more overhead than Joe’s guy, I think.

One after he finished at his shop and one in my office garage a week or so later.

Looking great, I'm gonna check with my dealer to see what they may be able to help with. Appreciate your input!

A paint 2 fix kit, cutting compound, wet & dry, polish & loads of elbow grease, doubtful that I’d do it again & would most likely pay someone if I had to do a similar job

I'm going to try an tackle it myself and use Dr Colorchip. I have all the necessary tools just need to take my time. Never did a full car just small parts and panels in the past. I feel like nobody will do it with the care you would on your own car, and practice should make it an easier job next time.

If you haven't already, watch some YouTube videos on Dr. Colorchip. There really isn't much to it. The color coded BMW paint in a paste-like form, cutting solution, a squeegee and a few art paint brushes.

I've been watching a bunch and it seems very straightforward. Hopefully it warms up in the next few weeks so I can get to it! Will post more updates as I have them.

Has anyone used Dr Colorchip for metallic colors? I got the paint for my Tanzanite Blue and the paint does not have any sparkles in it, which turns out very ugly when applied.

I have OEM paint which has the metallic chips in it and may go that route. I'll just have to sand it and polish afterwards. Wish me luck!

Tips and recommendations are welcome and appreciated!

I use it on my CBM, but I literally filled one pin hole that looked like a dot. Can't say I remember any flakes in it. Dr. ColorChip has it's uses, but not right for everything. The good news is, you can't really fuck anything up as the thinner will remove it completely if you want.

I started with the squeegee but found it was overkill for the few areas I was hitting, so I used the tiny brush.

I did not the squeegee but made one from a silicone piece I had at home. Had no luck either way, they paint would come right off. My chips are deeper so it may have not worked anyway.

You may want to wait a bit longer than they say to let it harden and dry before wiping off so the bottom layer in the deeper chip stays. Then wait until the next day and do it again over it to build on it and repeat until the fill is the same level as the paint.

I thought about it but when I saw that there is no metallic in the paint I did not care to continue. Just watched a YouTube video where a guy uses a mini sanding block and paint to get the chips done and ordered one to go that route. Will let you guys know what results I achieve. Fingers crossed!

Definitely keep us posted. Before and after pics would be great.

There is and has always been blob and sand techniques. There was a product called Lanka years ago. It definitely takes some skill, patience and a good set of eyes. If I ever had a chip that needed that skill, I would hire a pro.
