What constitutes a rare car?

Just looked up the latest figures for U.K. M550s and as of 2024 q3 there are 302.

Wonder what other BMWs might be considered rare from a mass car manufacturer.

Thinking those that are offered as a usual car rather than the obvious one offs that may exist. Ie rare variations of a model.

Good point

In fact I can’t recall seeing a beige saloon for that matter

So by stealth you’ve ended up with an “individual” bmw!

Have seen a few beige g30’s on AT, there was a beige m550i a little while back. I think BMW has now renamed Champagne Quartz Metallic, possibly because of the beige stigma it’s now Alvite Grey, which comes up as grey on the DVLA database, don’t know if the beige name is a just UK thing

talking of beige, I loved many years back a motor journalist describing the colour of an Allegro as "hearing aid beige"

those of you outside the UK who may not know what an allegro was, it was a truely awful car made by British Leyland.
Supposedly if you jacked it up on the wrong place, the rear window would pop out....

I would say that BMW's will never be rare or valuable again. Even special models like the CS cars plummet in value.

I own a "rare" car, although it's an SUV.
It's a 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, #200 of 500 built on the final production "Final 500" line for the company before they died forever.
Special paint, special logos, wheel hubs covers, etc.

It's currently worth about $2,000.
LOL

I guess it depends on country.

In the US, the M550i isn’t very rare, but my 540d is one of 298. But in the UK, the 530d is fairly common.

Not sure but you would be in the minority of the mass of the production.
