M550iX factory exhaust valve function when in Sport or Sport Plus mode

I understand the valves are opened when in Sport or Sport Plus. But are they always open in these modes? Or, do they open and close based on throttle position? For example, does the valve open on wide open throttle?

What about in Comfort? Are the valves continuously closed, or do they open on wide open throttle?

Anyone used a valve controller?

Thank you for the help.

They are not open when cruising in sport mode, I believe they just open more often than comfort when you are accelerating or idling. I use BimmerLink to open the valves sometimes, it is noticeably much louder than sport mode in the low rpm range.

If you don't mind, let me know what you find out about this. I just switched from an '18 to '22 and the new one is significantly quieter. I'm trying to find a solution as well besides replacing the exhaust.

In a way its actually good that the LCI is mapped differently for emissions. If you remove the 2nd cats and resonators on 2020's models and earlier it is quite loud and there are lots of pops. On the LCI you get 'woofle sounds' rather than cracks which is a bit more civilised.

I have the new Dinan one, along with the their X-pipe and axle back muffler. The valve controller works great, uses a remote (which could be programmed to one of the buttons on mirror). Sometime you want the growl when in comfort mode and this solves that.

Sorry if it’s a bit off topic, but what is the fuse to pull to keep the flaps open on a 2022 M550i?

Should be the same as 2018/2019 G30s, search the threads.

BUT, your 2020 can leave the valve always open from within Idrive 7. Take a look in the settings. That would be easier than pulling and replacing fuses.

I wish there was a way to code woofle and get rid of the crackle. I like hearing the burble but don't always want to the pops.

I don't think this is true. I have my set as you described however I notice a significant difference when in sport mode vs comfort.
