Average cost for res delete and custom mid/x pipe install

What is the average price you guys have paid for a resonator delete, custom x-pipe install.

My local shop wants $880 with tax/labor to do the job. They're using stainless, creating a custom x-pipe and welding everything.

They do a solid job on all their stuff, and are very well known in upstate NY.

i was just wondering what people pay for similar stuff.

I paid about 400 cad but it was not a custom x-pipe, it was a premade one that they fitted to replace the resonators.

Res delete is about $300 USD. Not sure about cost on a custom x-pipe, though.

I paid $300 cash in Tampa for a straight pipe. Credit would have been $400. Making a custom x-pipe would have been another 100.
Make sure the shop has a mandrel pipe bender or walk away. The resonators are not in a straight line like many other cars. Most shops do not have the equipment. They will just weld together prebent pieces which is not exactly the proper way to do leading to unsubstantial but still turbulence.
Welding a stainless steel x-pipe is pointless. Stock piping is anodized mild steel which (anodized aluminum) will burn off at the welds. Those areas are going to be the ones to rust the most.

Awesome. A lot of burble on downshifting and sounds great while accelerating. I may get an m5 comp muffler added.

The local guys here doesn't have a mandrel pipe bender so I walked away and ordered the Dinan D660-0080 - High Flow 3" Stainless Steel Pipe. Double the price of the custom work but I believe I'll be happier in the end. Plus I could always resell the Dinan pipe down the rode.

I paid around $938 delivered for the Dinan X Pipe. That gets you the entire mid pipes in 304 stainless steel (factory pipe is cheaper 409 stainless), and larger diameter in 76mm tubing, versus 70mm stock. Takes a bit of work to shop around on the mid pipe, got mine by emailing getbmwparts.com asking for their best price with shipping.

Matches with my factory M5 X brace.

That's what I ordered but wasn't as lucky on the pricing as you were. Mine was about $1300usd.
Tell me more about your M5 X Brace.

Does that m5 x brace for the M550? And modifications needed?

Bolts right up...there is a thread in the suspension section. BUT, read the entire thread, as there are some errors in the parts list someone made, but corrected later. I added my experience with the install...it's really easy. Just socket set, breaker bar, and torque wrench needed. Will require some Torx bit sockets to remove some Torx head bolts.

Note that you only notice this change under harder cornering. No change to ride, etc. Its not unlike installing larger anti roll bars.

OMG. That's where I went! They were confused first since I did not bring a pickup truck lol; the old guy wanted to weld in a 2.5" pipe. I said absolutely no.

If Caesar is still there, tell him they already did it before for Peter- Mandrel bent 3" pipe welded in instead of the 2 resonators. I took them about 3 hours.
I also installed an M5 comp muffler later myself and this thing sounds like a beast now. Already have a Nextdoor thread complaining about my car and its backfires.
PM me if you need further help.

That's the right thinking. Reselling is the way to go. The next guy will not care for your upgrades anyways. Also, removing both resonators makes the car sound obnoxious to most people.

I'd bring them the Dinan, ask them to copy it and return the dinan😂

I didn't get it installed yet. I'm considering it. Another user on here did it and it's on the forum, he's also posted a YouTube video.

For me, workmanship, nice welds and quality stainless materials is priority number one. I would want it to look good like it almost was from factory. Any muffler or chop shop can cut and weld ugly seals and pipes and effectively will produce the same thing as nice workmanship.

My OCD got the best of me. I procrastinated for months on whether to go to a quality chop shop muffler place, but I could not get past all those welded seams. TacticalGunnarM550 's work is the best I have seen, but I still could not get past the 10-12 welds. It's such a beautiful system but those welds are like magnets to my eyes. I almost feel like the beauty of those chromed or shiny pipes make the welds stick out more than just a base stainless creation.

So I went with Dinan full. Stupid money that I feel guilty about, but there may be some resale value someday when I put the old one back or at least that's what I tell myself as the guilt sets in, lol!

I couldn't get past the cost of the full exhausts, it seems crazy to me. Everyone's talking about resale of their exhausts, but when i was looking for a used one, no one had any for sale.

Most of us trade our cars in vs sell out right to a private individual, and dealers don't care about the brand of your exhaust. many if not most dealers actually don't want aftermarket because they can't do a certified inspection of the car.

If anyone on here is looking to sell their aftermarket exhausts, I'd be interested. Especially now that a lot of people with 2018's which is what i have are looking to trade in.
