In search of a new car phone mount, has there been anything new and revolutionary that I'm missing before I get another one?

I've been through so many:

Windshield suction type (pass)
Vent mount type (pass)
Cupholder type (its OK, not bad)

I have that same one. The magnet is pretty strong, but sometimes the phone will fall. I only really have that problem when I'm data logging. Normal driving has no problems.

I consider myself one of the most cautious drivers (I've never been pulled over and I'm 38) and even I've had every magnetic mount-based holder drop my iphone. Not a fan tbh.

Try the Pitaka holder and case. It is rock solid as the magnet in the holder/case is two-three times bigger than the normal ones.

Btw the carbon case is feather light, ultra thin and very strong.

I find with Apple Carplay, I don't really have a need for a phone mount. Anything up high such as a vent mount or dash or windshield mount isn't an option. I think it just clutters up the dash, especially if it is wired for power. In my E39, I used a proclip that slides into the dash trim and then I superglued a magsafe charger on it and ran a USB-C cable into the glovebox where I have a 12V lighter adapter. But again, for the G30, I really haven't found a reason to mount my phone.

I've used ProClip in my F15 and loved it. Quality and sturdy, not the cheapest solution as they have a 2 part system, one being the mount itself then You chose the holder type for your specific device. I've always positioned mine over the hazard lights button.

What Joe said. The reason to have a phone mounted is usually to use nav, text and play music. All of which can be done with CarPlay while the phone stays where it should - in a pocket or charging.

With wireless CarPlay, the ease of not removing phone from mount and dealing with cables far outweighs the "glitches" CarPlay may have stumble upon. Assume this may be a non-Apple phone issue?

I bought the Kuda USA add a panel like I had for my F32, and instead of using a mount, I just 3M taped an apple MagSafe charger to it and ran the usb c cable to the center cubby. So I have a magnetic phone charger and holder right next to the cup holders

No, it has like clips/hooks at the ends and top and they clip/hook into the frame around the area. Pretty cool design.

I actually bought this so that I would have a larger metal plate. I placed 2 inside the case as I do not want to stick it on the outside.

Think he meant the actual piece that goes around the hazard button on the dash. It just clips on to the surrounding area.
