Heat Sucks along with the AC
-28 Celsius outside today and my cars heat can barely warm it up. This AC / Heat system is so pathetic. I have both front set to +28 full fans and auto off. Can barley feel any heat coming out of the system.
Man this is disappointing, can't get cool in the summer and now I can't get warm in the winter. Fuck BMW, get you shit right! |

Can't wait to experience real cold. I noticed my fan is quite noisy when cold though. Anyone experiencing fan being noisy. Parhaps just noisy in general (can't recall my F11 was like that).

EcoPro more than Comfort, but curious if you have better results in Sport.

I use comfort all the time and heat has not been a problem. And the heater has gotten a good workout with the very cold weather the Cleveland area has been having.

I can't see the modes making any difference with the exception of eco pro which gives you the choice as to whether you want to use the a/c compressor or not . At those temperatures though I don't think it would be relevant as I was always under the impression that the compressor would not work when the ambient temperature is below 0C

2) Set the center vents to max heat; let us know if you see any change.

I would suggest you lower the temp settings from +28 to around +20 or +21. If you set them as high as to +28 the car will have a hard time to reach this and therefore not warming anything at all.

does that really make sense?? I can't see how that would work at all.

Going back to the original question
So it was -28c .how long was your journey on this occasion, wondering how long you have it to warm up? The fan speed setting defines the maximum fan speed it can select but doesn't mean that's necessarily what it needs at that point in time.( so you could have it set to 5 but it could be virtually nothing if the cabin is at the desired temp or perhaps right after starting when cold when it decides not to blow cold air into cabin until warmer is available) I get warm air very quickly which suggests to me that there is electrical heating as this is before the coolant temp gauge has started to move. As the car is new you should take to the dealer to sort if it turns out there is a genuine issue. Odd though as they would have tested it in such climates |

I'm talking about the initial minutes after starting, after a while when the system seems to be up and running and produce heat you can increase temp settings although I never tried setting it as high as +28. Never used higher than +23 in very cold conditions, normal setting for me this time of year is +21 to +22. I really don't know the tech behind all of this but I do spend a lot of time in my car, 8-90000km per year, and this is the conclusion I have. Might be wrong but as I said initially just try it and see if you can see any difference. The car should without hesitation be able to give you a good climate even in these low outside temps. |

sorry I should have added more info:
I have a heated garage, car always starts nice and warm. It's +20 in there always. I was on a highway road trip to the lake, it was probably close to -40 with the windchill that day. Total drive time to the lake was about 1 hour 10 mins. The car started off nice an warm but it could not keep it warm while on the highway. It's not like it was freezing cold in the car, I just expected a nice toasty warm car when the heats on full, but couldn't seem to get it there... Sorry if I sounded like a jerk Velgro77 - I appreciate the response. I'm taking the car in next week and will have them look into the issue further for me. I'll be going back out to the lake later on next week, hopefully we get some nasty cold again to test further. Thanks, |
