BMW Wheels

Hello guys, right now I have the M Sport original 19's on my BMW G30. I would like to upgrade to 20. I've heard that getting bigger wheels would affect the Bushings more and therefore I would have to replace them. Is that so?

My G30 is xDrive and right now the rear wheels are bit bigger than the front ones. I've seen some nice 20's wheel for sale but the size is the same on the rear and on the front. Could I still use them? Or should I look for wheels where the rear are a bit bigger than the front ones?

Now maybe a stupid question. Is it ok to change to 20s or 21. Can something break?

Thanks in advance!

If you keep to the same rim width, tyre width and diameter, and offset as your current 19" wheels then going to 20" or 21" diameter will not place any additional load on bearings.

If you move the wheel to hub interface (by changing offset) then it will add extra load to the bearings.

If you add weight to the wheel & tyre combination then it will increase unsprung weight and alter the handling characteristics of the car.

If you fit a 20" or 21" tyre you will need a lower profile in order to keep the diameter the same as your 19" tyre. That will reduce the sidewall height and if you live in an area with lots of potholes and road damage then you need to take into account the possibility of rim damage.

But that's all theoretical. In the real world you can change all the parameters (within reason) without creating any problems. If you want to be 100% safe then go for BMW wheels specifically designed for the G30, but if you're willing to experiment then just don't go silly and you'll (probably) be ok.

Maybe search through posts on this forum to see what other's have done and if they encountered any problems?

Right now I have 275/35 R19 on the rear.

I've seen this for sale:
1. 245/30 20'' rear and front same size.

2. 295/25 - 21 Rear and 255/30 - 21 front.
Which one of these is better to get and to not damage the bushings that much? Or it doesn't matter?

The tyre size doesn't matter too much. The important dimension is the offset of the wheel(s).

Unless your roads are perfect get wheel and tire insurance.

I have the 19” and I’d never go 20” on a daily driver.
