Under Wheel Storage Won't Stay Closed

I'm not sure what to call this little door for starters, but it keeps popping open. Eventually it will kind of stay shut but the next time I open it, it will be a battle for a while. Is there an easy fix? Is it easy to replace the whole door, or is there something else I should look into. It's pretty annoying when I slam my knee on it, and it's a nice little key holder area or something I could use.

I had this, same colour too, the locking clip had snapped slightly and the pieces fell down the back... never to be seen again.

It's actually a sunglasses holder, I think? It's deeper than you'd assume!

The whole "box" unscrews and kind of slides out and needs replacing, they don't have the door separate from what I remember.

My local SA needed to order the whole tray in, but it wasn't too pricey in the UK.

This has been reported here and on other forums several times. More common than it should be. I never thought about it or even knew about the little compartment until I read about someone complaining about it as you have. So I looked at it, opened it, closed it then it wouldn't stay closed. Same problem. I have finally gotten it to stay close, by luck mostly, and I will not be opening it again. My sunglasses stay in the cup holder. --Bob

It's a very common problem with some. I have been lucky. I don't exactly open and close it daily though. It will hold sunglasses, but not in the case for most of mine.

I used to use it for masks during COVID.

Does anyone know what it’s called? Or a part number even better?

Is it a very easy install or some tricks to it as with most things?

I already replaced driver ceiling handle with sunglasses holder, I’d love to free up more storage spaces.

I wonder if they have a revision to it yet, would have to know the name or part number. If no one knows I’ll dig deep into realOEM later.

In my printed manual it's called the "driver's side glovebox".

Installed the replacement today. I’m about as low as it comes with mechanical skill so the fact that I was able to do this myself says something. Two torx bits at the top and then it’s just 2 pressure clips holding it in at the bottom. Easy enough to take out. To put it back in start with the 2 clips on the bottom get those locked in and then you can put the torx in and go. The clips are a little annoying but this is definitely a repair anyone at all can do.

Nice to have the storage space usable now, it’s been broken since I got the car. Thanks for the assists in finding the part !
