Getting dyno to read RPM

I went to get my car dynoed yesterday, but for some reason he couldn't get his program to read the RPM through the OBD2 port. He said that he sees that sometimes after a car has been flash tuned. Has anyone else heard of this and know any easy way around it?
The alternative is to get a clip onto one of the wires going to an ignition coil pack so it can read the signal through that.
Since he didn't have time Saturday to do what he needed to do to get the space to access the wire, I'm taking the car back on Thursday so he has more time. I will post graph as soon as I can!
