I like the early fuse removal technique.

Do you do the yank the same fuse [F203] at cold start for other engines? The 540i needs to speak up!

You did indeed, and I thank you.

I did this on my F13 with tie wraps and enjoyed a modest improvement. Straight sixes sing a nice tune if not muffled into hum.

I did this on my 335i N55 and it was a real noticeable difference. On the 540i, not so much but its better than nothin :-)

I have a 2019 G30 540i and have done the mod with Bimmerlink and can hear the flaps opening and closing and leave my adapter in all the time but no change in sound I can hear so far. I will try the fuse mod next.

The thing is, I don't want this all the time. When in my neighborhood, for instance, I'd like the flaps closed. The thing I like the most about my wife's new AMG GLE 53 is that little switch on the center console which opens and closes the exhaust flaps.......so wish I had one of those!!!

So just buy one of these https://www.dinancars.com/blog/post/...ve_remote_kit/

You can program the remote buttons under the rearview mirror to control it.

Thanks for the link. This is very interesting. I did not see that my 2019 M550 was listed in the vehicles application list. Where, exactly, does this splice into the system? Is is easy to install, or would I need an installer? I'd have to use the remote, because all my garage door buttons are being used, but that would still be a tremendous asset!

So, I emailed Dinan. The reason my M550 is not listed is because this device is only for single exhaust vehicles. Curses, foiled again. Interesting concept, though........are you listening, BMW?

Thanks for the update as I didn't know. Did you ask Dinan if they might make one eventually for the 550i?

I don't want them permanently open so bimmerlink + obd dongle lets me open them fully if I ever want to.

I had the fuse pulled on my M550 for the last few weeks and it sounded a bit better in comfort.

I put it back in though as I had the resonator delete done today. Highly recommend doing this. Sounds so much better in sport and not that much louder at all in comfort. Still cruises along quietly on the motorway then when you jump off, chuck it in sport mode and boy do you get a lot of looksas you drive past people. Heaps more pops and bangs, and they are loud. Loving it

sorry to revive this but question - first, where exactly is fuse 203? I know it's in the trunk compartment but the fuses aren't labeled specifically. two, is the method to turn on the car, but not start it, and put the gear shift into sport mode, remove the fuse and turn the car off? I assume we don't start the engine other wise you can't shift into sport mode without the car moving and I don't trust my parking brake that much...

Yes it's in the boot. There should be a fuse guide folded up in there with it which tells you exactly where it is.

As for the procedure, the engine mode needs to be in sport plus, not the transmission. Turn on the engine and leave the car in park. Then kick it over to sport plus mode. You will hear the change in tone as the flaps open. Then pull the fuse out

It worked on my 540 pulling the fuse. I can actually see the flap stuck open however the sound does not increase that much. At least not as much as my 335i did.

Just checked, on the 540, or at least mine...putting it in sport plus with engine running does NOT open the passenger side exhaust flap. It's freezing here in Chicago and NO exhaust is coming from the passenger side ... darn.
