648M 7-series wheels on a G30

I know people have already done this, but nobody really posted any good 'side profile' pics of the car to show the offset of the wheels on a G30 chassis.

I had originally left on the 15mm spacers when I used them on my rear 664M wheels, but they push the 648M wheels out too far past the fender and looks a little ridiculous. With no spacers, the 648M wheels sit perfectly flush on the car and looks really good.

Handling at freeway speeds is great, better than the square 648M wheels I had on. Plus, the 275 rears look beefy & aggressive .

They're 20" tires that fit both the 5-series and 7-series wheels.... 245/40-20 and 275/35-20. Same size as what you find on the 20" 759i and 669M wheels, which are an available option on the G30 5-series. Difference is the offset of the wheels.

Thanks!

Those are the OEM tire sizes for 7 Series G11/G12. The 5 Series G30/G31 use tires with 1" shorter overall diameter, ie 245/35-20 front and 275/30-20 rear.

G30/G31: 245/35-20, 680 mm
G11/G12: 245/40-20, 704 mm (3.5% taller)

G30/G31: 275/30-20, 674 mm
G11/G12: 275/35-20, 700 mm (3.9% taller)

The result when using 7 Series tires on 5 Series is that the car sits 1/2" higher from the ground, the wheel gap is reduced by 1/2", the speedo reads about 4% lower than with OEM tires and the odometer accumulates 4% less miles than you actually driven.

Taller tires will also increase comfort, and affect both acceleration and fuel consumption.

I am sure you are aware of all this, but it could be good info for other people reading this thread.

@AlphaOmega4

Sorry, didn't see this until now.

It's a G30 M5 replica painted spoiler. Pretty much the same size & shape as the factory carbon fiber trunk spoiler. The fitment is perfect and the color matches perfectly.

Maybe you can help. I'm also looking to run 245/40-20 and 275/35-20 tires on my new wheels. The offset is ET36 and ET 25. They're an aggressive offset.. I specifically asked for an aggressive setup because I like a flush look with the fenders. However now I'm worried the tires might be too tall and will cause rubbing issues. Maybe rubbing with the fender/quarter panels, or maybe with the control arms, struts, etc..

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Just bought some 20" 648m's for my 2018 530e. Look and drive great. Raised the overall car about 1/2". I used to have H&R springs and spacers on the stock 18", but took them off before I bought the 20's. They bottomed out a bit too much. Do you guys think putting them back on would bottom out with the 20's?

Hey, I listened to your advice and got the +5 on the side wall for my 668m rims. It's been good so far thanks! What do you mean affect acceleration and fuel economy, would this be in a positive way or negative way?

Taller and heavier tires will decrease the acceleration at low speed due to tall gearing.

Tall gearing (from taller tires) can on the other hand be beneficial for fuel economy. Lower engine speed for a given vehicle speed.

I took the plunge on some 648's - I used standard G30 tyre sizes (245/35 275/30) to keep everything the same as before. I had 759i wheels previously so these are a touch lighter (1kg per wheel), plus it meant I could remove my spacers as. I'm very happy with the look and feel.

Yes, the fitment is great for G30!

That's how it usually is, 7 Series wheels fits great on 5 Series and 5 Series wheels fits great on 3 Series.

The OEM fitments are too conservative!

Hey man do you have more pictures of the fitment? I just purchased these wheels for my G30 and I’m trying to figure out what tire sizes to go with. Looks awesome!

Since my original post, I’ve switched the tires out since they eventually wore out, but never had an issue with the original setup.

I’m now running the following setup below, and the stance looks super aggressive and good on the car. Fitment is good and no issues with any rubbing. Price was actually a few bucks cheaper too than going with traditional 245 fronts and 275 rears. The 648M wheels are wide enough to accommodate the tires.

Front: 255/35R20 P-Zero Sport non-RFT
Rear: 295/30R20 P-Zero Sport non-RFT
