What's your GoPro setup for the track
What's your GoPro setup for the track? Standard single suction cup, clip-on, etc?
I'm running a Hero 4 Silver with single suction in the rear window. At least that's the plan. |

If placed on rear view window with suction cup, it gets impossible to watch what is going on outside of the car...
Too little light source for gopro. Now, I am looking for better solution. I just don't want to place it on helmet or side windows in case I forgot and move the windows down or who knows what else... I even purchased other accessories to mix and match for extension and no luck yet.... |

Thanks for the feedback! I was thinking another mounting option would be on the left passenger side window too. Just not sure if I'd get a good angle...

I've done a couple.
Inside right rear window: Pros: decent audio, can watch your driving/hands Cons: not great road visibility, if have passenger blocks view Outside top of windshield: Pros: good course visibilty, only wind noise if no external mic Cons: can't see your hands, run risk of loosing camera/causing damage Currently I'm using outside with external mic for exhaust. Need to move mic further away next time, the exhaust drowned it out in this first trial run.

It's the RAM suction cup mount. It seems very strong, but I also put gorilla tape around the edges.

I use the clip mount and clip it to the passenger visor.
It's actually quite stable. Add in Hero4's image stabilizer and it's almost perfect. I fold a small microfiber towel so the clip doesn't imprint the visor. |

I use a RAM mount with the tripod adapter and the GoPro brand suction cup mounts without any issues. I have found the best view is to the right of the mirror as high up as possible. Last time I want to try something different so I attached my GoPro to the upper right of my windshield. HPDE requires windows to be rolled down so attaching it to the passenger window is a NO NO at my track.
Anyhow I am happy with both results. Here are the links to the various views: Front window: Upper right of windshield: |

I also use this since it is inside the car and protected:

I use one of those 3M sticky mounts provided with the camera glued on the windshield behind the rearview mirror on the passenger side. The mount and the camera are hidden from the driver's view (behind the rearview mirror) and this position provides a great "driver's view" in videos. It is very convenient to remove and install the camera and the mount remains very discreet when no camera is mounted.
Here's an example from my E92. I'll post one from my F82 once I have uploaded it to Youtube.

I have tried my suction mount in different locations. I haven't found a favorite yet as each location has its pros & cons. Some locations have a better view of the track while others have a good view of what I'm doing with the wheel. Depending on the lighting outside, mounting it too far back in the car gives a poor view of the track. Here's a couple different angles I have shot with in the past.

How come none of you use the view from just behind B-pillar? Provides the track, your tires, and your hands. And your ugly mug in the side view mirror if unlucky.
It sucks that you can't mount to the seat - but has anyone thought of making something with PVC pipes, and suctions cups to have for lack of a better term, a camera bar in the rear cabin? Something like one of those wall to wall shower curtain rail thingies. If you get the RAM mount (best), make sure you get the shorter version. The video below is the long version and shakes like hell, mine is pretty stable. He also has his ugly mug in the shot haha. |
