Delayed exhaust flaps opening

My 2021 m550i is coded to start in sport individual mode and I’ve noticed that after starting the car, it takes a while before the exhaust valves actually open up. I can try to switch back between comfort to sport ind, and it’ll still take about 20-30 secs before I hear the “click” of them opening.

Anyone else experienced this? It’s fine, I just wasn’t sure if this was typical. Was kind of hoping they’d fire open immediately.

Maybe it has something to do with the cold start? Side question, what did you use to code your car? I use Carly and I don't think that option was there, unless I need to search deeper. Thanks.

Yeah, I'm not sure. I have resonators removed, so I definitely know when the valves are opened or closed!

I used Bimmercode to do the coding. Super simple.

@Beerflakes

I am experimenting when a remote relay, to turn off the valves all together. I'll keep you posted. It'll be plug and play, and easy to remove

Which parameter is related with the flaps? I'm trying to confirm that my car doesn't have flaps at all and I need to check the OEM parameter values to be sure

I just pulled the fuse and let the exhaust valves stay open all the time. Much easier to me.

Yeah it'd be easier... I do want the option to have it quiet though. Neighbors would get pissy.

Not sure, this is what Bimmercode's site has for the G30:

Driving mode
Default driving mode
Values:
ADAPTIVE
COMFORT
ECO PRO
ECO PRO INDIVIDUAL
SPORT
SPORT INDIVIDUAL
Requirements:
“Body Domain Controller” BDC control unit
“UniCarScan“, “OBDLink” or ENET adapter

Don't they stay closed when starting to warm up the cats faster?

Without coding it, you could click sport mode then start it up with the valves open, correct? Just wondering since I'm going to take delivery of mine in a month, and I was wondering if you could.

No, the flaps do not open during cold starts. I'd imagine they would close right before the engine started.

Try this.
Put car in drive when it's in any sport setting. If you touch the gas 1/20th of an inch you will hear the flaps open. I was experimenting with this when I made flaps active on mine.

Once when in gear with auto hold on if you literally just put your foot on the gas pedal you will hear them open at idle. I do believe cold starts valves stay closed to heat cats quicker

No longer works that way on the 2021 models. I had to open it via BimmerLink and then pull the fuse in the trunk. It doesn't open via the sport modes as it did on the previous years.

I didn't code mine, but if I press the sport mode button from a cold start, it doesn't pop. Only after the engine is warmed up, it pops if I start it back up.
