Did BMW change the welcome tone? It sounds different. You know it's been like "blingggg, blingggg, blinggggg". From videos it now sounds like bloop , bloop. It sounds like the i8 tone, I hope it's codable and we can go to the original tone.

According to BMW Germany and keep in mind their numbers are conservative and also 0-62mph: http://www.bmw.de/de/neufahrzeuge/5e...che-daten.html

540 RWD 0-62 is 5.1
540 AWD 0-62 is 4.8

I can only imagine how fast the new 550 is going to be, it may be in the M3 category .

This is great but every BMW I've owned has had speedometers that overstate speed by about 5 mph at 60. So, car may be faster than a F10 550i but not 1 second faster to 60 or 62 mph.

The new M550i xDrive goes from 0-62 mph in 4.0 sec.

I think 5 mph is an exaggeration. My GPS speed does show that BMW speedo overestimates the actual speed on a the ones I've owned but only by 1-2 MPH and that's consistent all they way up to 90 mph. A 5 MPH difference is extreme especially at lower speeds.

Both my BMW's overstate the speed by 3 mph. Consistently.

Maybe with the Electronic speedo it will be closer to the actual speed. Then again with the margin of error, these numbers are still fantastic!

Since BMW are conservative in their timing, I'm sure the production version will be quicker than the current M5, so 0-100kmh in less than 4 secs.

Well, by looking at the numbers, it's more than decent imo.
It may look like a small upgrade due to it's conservative look, but it's showing impressive stats.
Conclusion, the G30 continues where F10 ended, i think BMw have a winner here.
It sound's like the prerelase i attenden back in October, they flew in a "specialist", and according to him, no other BMW in history had been tested more than the G30, he said it was that good.

If the actual real weight saving is 95-100kg or 200lbs, that is huuuge.

Awesome news.

All these marketing claims of Range Rover being 400kg lighter that the predecessor proved to be phony as they were comparing old V8 with new V6 model..

Looks promising!!

I manage to stop the video at 5.051sec showing 101kph on the speedo. So extremely close to BMW estimates.

Am I the only one that thinks the new digital gauges feel off? They don't feel or look very BMW to me. They only seem suitable to the i brand for me or maybe I'm just living in the past.

That should change as the tires wear and the circumference changes.

Different Wheel and tire combinations on the same car would also change the reading as their circumferences are not exactly the same.

BMW has to ensure they do no under read on the worst approved setup.

Am I the only one who noticed that it goes 0-100kmph in 5.05 sec, not in 5.31 sec?

Does anyone have an idea on how the new 540 compares with the F10 550i LCI version?

Which engine will the 550i use? The same N63TU as the previous one?

You can change this for the info screen displayed speed by coding. I've changed my E9x cars to actual speed vs the 3mph faster displayed speed. For US models, they won't accept coding for the actual speedometer (apparently EU models you can code that to actual, at least my Carly device shows it will).
