I just got back from the 5 series ride and drive event in Austin. this is what I will say about it the vs the f10. it is similar on the outside, but much more refined. everyone loves the look of the f10 so why are you complaining about a more refined f10 look?. the inside is just plain better. but the best difference is absolutely the drive. we got to drive on circuit of the Americas and I was able to push the car as hard as I could. it is pretty amazing what that big car is capable of and how well it handles those situations. it is truly an incredible car that will dominate the segment.

edit: I think the luxury line fits the g30 better than the Msport. I really don't like what they did with the front bumper of the Msport cause it doesn't look low enough, and the back just looks narrow. the luxury package is the way to go cause it looks very elegant but with a sporty touch.
check my instagram for a few pictures of the past two days.

I've seen the M-sport in real life and liked it a lot.

Did you only drive the 540i?
Do you know what suspension it was equipped with?

I drove both the 540 and 530, luxury line on both. The new suspension is much much better and the car being 137 lbs lighter really makes a difference. I rode with Adam Andretti in a 540i xdrive with msport but i can't tell you anything about that ride besides it was fast.

To me the Luxury line Chrome looks ugly. I currently onw the F10 with Luxury line that came as facelift in 2014 and it was much better looking.

M-Sport is another thing all together and love it...

Lol what? The outgoing 5 series has one of the most dated looking interiors of the current BMW lineup as well as the X3 and X4. I know a lot of people hate the free standing screen but it just looks fresh and open like there is a lot more space.
Okay, well look at that mono-button thingy that spans the length of the shift gate. That's call de-evolution!

Subtle changes. But IMO g30 looks (relatively) more refreshed and updated. Both stunning.

I don't think I'll ever be a fan of the kidneys connected to the headlights.

Must have been a great experience. I did that with the M6 Grand Coupe but missed out on this.... I'm really interested in the M550i. Could it be as good as the current M5? Even on track?

It was one of the best experiences of my life. Going to that track was on my bucket list and I got to drive on it. Also met Vince Young downtown and that was awesome.
But to answer your question about the 550. I guarantee it will be faster on a track than the f10 m5. That's how confident I am in this chassis.

The ones saying the G30 looks exactly like the F10, the difference is bigger than one might think.
Having seen the G30 live and sitting inside it, yes the F10 was a great 5 series, pretty much up there with the E39 (imo). But the G30 is just so much better than the F10 ever was, it´s a bigger gap between the F10 to this new model, than it was from previous 5 series.

Has the G30 started arriving at Norwegian dealers already?

Very excited to hear it handles better at the track. A serious complaint I have on the F10 is that simply driving straight is exhausting. On center feel is vague and the car requires subtle adjustments just to go straight.

Any insight on this with the G30?

I was at a closed showing two months ago.
It should be in the showrooms from February 11.

Funny how BMW had to produce this video to convince customers the F10 and the G30 are different. Lmao.

I've never felt that in the f10 so I'm not sure what you mean. I really enjoy the f10 on the highway and the g30 is better cause the b58/46 are more snappy. The ability to be as comfortable as the f10 on the highway and the ability to drive damn near m5 levels of handling.

The 540 felt as agile as a 3 series. The 550 will be quicker and it is on such a better chassis.

I think the F10 was a clean design with classic "5-series" looks. The new design is still handsome but has some non-traditional elements like the headlights being connected to the kidneys, the chrome surrounding the kidneys being excessively thick, and the little vent on the fenders. It looks more "luxurious" whereas the F10 looked more "sporty."

Overall, the G30 looks like a more "mature" version of the F10. If the F10 were a 25 year old man, the G30 would be the same person at age 35. That's the best way I can describe it.

Anyhow, the G30 will be a winner if it drives like a real BMW. The F10 was a piece of shit from behind the wheel and didn't deserve to wear the roundel one bit.

They do this for every major redesign, it wasn't created to "convince" people of anything.

G30 looks much better than the F10. Not a radical redesign. However, F10 seemed a little too much cookie cutter BMW to me.

I'm not seeing anything to make me switch. Except engine and lighter weight. Ok, maybe I'll switch.
