just googled it, so looks like a sealant. the fact that talk about it helping in wet weather suggests they put this on the windows?

I've no evidence but always a bit dubious about any of these products , especially from BMW. I'm sure some of them may be very good, but suspect BMW may over charge for this and I would suspect a detailer would probably do a better job anyway.(I suspect this may be one of the things they try and add to the price of a new car to increase their profits when teh product itself dosesn't cost anywhere as much)

I'm old school and just carefully wash and use a wax on the paintwork (trying best to avoid swirl marks, 2 buckets, lambswool mitten and microfibre cloth to pat dry) and use Rain-x on the glass (which I swear is very good).
Obvously some effort required to do this on a regular basis.

I guess it depends how much you like looking after your car, always maintain if you're happy do that, you can keep it looking immaculate.

Just my opinion, others here may have used this or similar products and may have a different viewpoint.

I’ve got it on. Seems to be shinier than other cars but it’s nowhere near as good as other products for ensuring water runs off (beading etc). So water does tend to stick more than I’d have expected and therefore Car gets dirtier than I’d like.

I used opticoat 2.0 on my previous f31 and loved the beading and increased diet repellant results...

All the Irish dealers try and include this in any quotes they give, usually 250/300 euro I think.
It's a basic paint protection that they used to call seal and protect.
I would ask the to remove it from the price and if price done then get them to apply it for free to seal the deal. It's a mornings work if that for them and no great shakes. A proper detail is a better job.

We agreed a price for a new G30 for January. Then the salesman said he would throw in the Protect X for nothing if I wanted it. I suppose I might as well take it.

Trouble is IF you want to put something else on the paintwork you'll need to remove that stuff and to be honest there are so many good produces out there.

Yep, got my car also coated with glass/teflon coating couple of months ago. Only thing I can say I wish I've done this with my previous cars! Great stuff!

Protect X is a BMW licensed version of GardX:

Take a look on the bay and search for GardX and you'll see what it's really worth!

Fair point. But I'm getting it for free. He chucked in after the deal was done at no extra cost.

Yeah same here. It’s a nice little addition to go for if you’re not that bothered about coating it yourself later.

Opticoat cost $25 a bottle. It's all in application, that is wht detailers charge over $1000.

I did opticoat myself and it took me a whole day to do and a day to set. Although it was better o just don’t have that sort of time anymore. So throwing in for free is not too bad a deal really
