it'd be nice but the sunroof in the 5 series is too small to me to add this. different with X3/5/7 with a larger impact from their size.

After I read this post a few weeks ago, I decided to give it a try and ordered the recommended ambient lighting set from Aliexpress.
I own a 5 series wagon with the panoramic sunroof, but this vehicle was not available for selection, so I decided to took the set for the 2018 X3 model. In the end, it seems like only the connectors differ, the length of the led stripes seem to be the same for every model. Well, to be honest the drivers side took me round about 3hrs to install... I didn't want to destroy anything in my car when installing the kit, so I tried to be very careful. The toughest part was the removal of the grab handle Had not the right tools to get the plastic stoppers off, but in the end I finally did it and was able to install the first led stripe. I fixed it with some pieces of duct tape as recommended in the linked topic above. Yesterday I had enough time to finish this project and installed the last missing stripe on the passengers side too. It only took me round about 1:15h, because it is very easy when you know what expects you Because the led stripes were too long for the 5 series sunroof, I had to shorten them a little bit. Because it was not able to fit it in the headliner, I took a scissor and simply cuted the led stripe off. It was worth the risk, because both stripes were still glowing. I had still no time to take some good pictures, but maybe I'm able to do this within the next few days. So thanks for your inspiration Burr001 Really appreciate the final result and I'm happy with the new look when driving at night, especially when the sun protection roller blind is opened and you can see the reflection of the stripes in the glass. The color of the led stripes doesn't find the other colors to 100% to be honest – but I only paid 50€ (round about 54$) for the whole set with shipment to Germany included. It was worth the money and I can only fully recommend to give it a try if you like to customize your car Here is a short video of the result: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/olDTE77o6Wg Last edited by Perplexitivity; 12-13-2023 at 01:38 PM.. |
