I hear ya, but when you part ways with your Q50 RS, you might miss those excellent Akebono brakes, not to mention the nimble and willing 400 HP engine, and a lower weight of the car compared to any G30 model.

I really liked my Q50 RS, including the engine sound pouring out of the (aftermarket) Fast Intentions cat-back free flowing exhaust, and if it was not for the M550 power/drivetrain, I would have still owned the Red Sport.

Yeah that would be a good look, a neighbor just picked up a new 3 and it gives it a really distinctive different look.

I had a Q50 RS prior to my M550i as well. Great car, quick and nimble. Stock vs stock though M550i is definitely faster and has more usable power. 1st was worthless for the Q50.

Apparently, it does. Unfortunately, it also means alienating some of the most loyal customer base on bimmerpost, like myself on my 9th back-to-back BMW spanning 20 years.

I am sure their market research team is doing a bang-up job expanding market share, but what's customer loyalty worth to them? Apparently, not much; if they can get two new customers for each long-time one they lose, they are OK with it.

Have to agree, this is one of the reasons I don't have a BMW in my garage for the first time in over 20 years.

Another problem is the competition is closing the gap when it comes to handling/driving dynamics. Back in the 90's and early 2000's, the 3,5, and even 7 series were best handling in their class with no cars coming close except maybe the G35/7 but they had a large gap in how it drove in comparison to the rest of the class.

Now, while the BMWs still do have some sportiness, the class has caught up, and some cars have even surpassed BMW in the handling/driving dynamics such as Alfa, Jaguar, some Cadillacs and even some Mercedes.

I understand that BMW is chasing sales numbers, and I don't blame them, whatever their doing is working, as they surpassed Mercedes as the #1 luxury manufacturer this year so far, but in the process, they have lost me until they make a product that I find to be "The Ultimate Driving Machine"

That's fair if Pops thought of his vehicles as tools to get from point A to point B, but clearly he wasn't a discerning sports car enthusiast or driving enthusiast. The latter doesn't give a F what people think and will drive whatever he/she pleases for no other reason than it makes them happy to drive and own. But yeah, if you don't care about cars and have money, driving a black Benz is going to fly under the radar and draw less unwanted attention than say a yellow Ferrari would.

Also, I think the LCI is going to look awesome. From what I can tell, it looks like the grilles will be of similar shape and proportion to those found on the G20 3-series and not the 7er LCI.
In the private practice medical field it doesn't look great to show up in an extravagant vehicle.

Why? I couldn't care less what my doctor drives as long as they're a great doctor. If they drive a Ferrari or rolls Royce or something then I'm happy they're able to enjoy their success.

Bigger kidney grilles may look either more "aggressive" or more "opulent", depends on who is looking.

I do not care about either, I like body styling which is aesthetically pleasing, sober or conservative, if you will, and yet not devoid of the unique brand character. Take Alfa Romeo Giulia QF, a perfect example of styling excellence in my eyes.

Thats great, but believe me, not everyone sees it that way, and people get very angry.

I wish that BMW would have followed the Porsche model, where they created the Cayenne to expand their line-up and get more R&D money to support their specialty vehicles.

The main difference I see is that BMW expands the line-up (how many SUVs do they have now?!) and waters down the existing/iconic cars, where as Porsche expands the line-up to strengthen the existing/iconic cars.

They have completely different business models though, BMW need volume Porsche don't want it or need it.

BMW sells more than 50% SUV while Porsche sells more than like 80% SUV? Different level of subsidy I suppose?

Not sure it's all that relevant.

Porsche's global SUV sales isn't anywhere near 80%.

It sold 256,255 vehicles globally in 2018, and of the total, about 157,000 came from Macan and Cayenne. That's about 60%.

This is actually pretty remarkable considering that the non-SUV vehicles are 911, 718 (Boxsters, Cayman) and Panamera. They are either impractical (718) or very expensive (Panamera), or both (911).

One interesting point about Porsche is that I hardly see their vehicles in the streets and highways of Germany and most of Europe for that matter.

I would gather the bulk of production is exported and sold elsewhere?

Certainly see a lot of their cars around London. But then again it's quite usual to see more expensive cars around here.
