No paddles on 530e

Not sure why my 530e does not have paddles on the steering wheel. Is this normal? Those who own 530e, do you have it?

I am pretty sure the sports paddle shifters are standard, at least in the US. Not sure how that may be different in Canada.

It's an option in Norway. I didn't choose it. Picking up the car in 2 weeks. Just hope I don't miss it.
I added so much other equipment that I didn't want to pay any more extra, and it's a lease.

I just did a quick look at the parts database...and for a generic look for 530e steering wheels...BMW offered 7 versions...and only 3 of them have paddles.

So..."normal" would depend on which steering wheel was ordered along with the option packages your 530e has. Apparently it didn't include an option package that included one of the steering wheels with paddles.

Here's a direct link to the steering wheels offered...only #4, #5, & #7 have paddles: https://bimmercat.com/bmw/EN/search/...MW+530e/USA/32

you won't miss them. I have them, rarely use them as they're a pain, you can't really shift while turning. Easier to just use the gearshift for shifting in sport mode honestly. They look cool but that's about it

They are certainly better than when they just had button on the steering wheel on my older 750, those were an odd setup... maybe I'll try using them more and see if I can get used to them.

I don't understand the appeal of paddles mounted on the steering column as seen in Alfa Romeo products.

well, turning and shifting at the same time? though I guess you're not suppose to do that any way...

Same here with my 530e.

Also, there’s really no point on using them on the 530e since there’s no tach displayed on the cluster. So you basically have to listen to the quiet sounding engine on when to shift, rather than have an accurate type of measurement to watch for your shifts (watching a tachometer).

This. What's the point if you can barely tell when to shift? I think this option only makes sense when ordered with the full LCD display that has a tach on it.

I had my 530e coded to the Alpina display so I have always on Tach.

haven't driven manual since 20 years ago (required to take license in manual back then in Taiwan), but I don't even look at tach. to shift, just use to hear engine sound, though given how quiet modern car is that might be difficult...

though seriously for the guys who shift yourself, what do you do? more aggressive downshift?

If I'm going down the highway and maybe want to shave 5-10 mph off quickly without showing brake lights.

Also sometimes it's just fun to take over and control my own shifts.

I also was taught to, did to, and still do shift by feel and sound, not a blinking idiot light or a tach. But if you have an "E" and you want a tach, code the Alpina display. I did check and it doesn't show in EcoPro but that is a driving mode that I don't ever use.

I'm still jealous of those that can code Alpina. I tried it, without realizing I don't have the full digital display, and it made my dashboard wonky - shifted everything about an inch to the left!
