I found out that, unless someone posted this above, if you hold down the mic button for a longer period of time than usual, it activates Siri basically.

Correct. And you can use Siri to sends texts or read a text from someone. Basically anything Siri related that you can do from your phone, you're able to do through CarPlay Siri.
