Really wished BMW kept the ICON headlights as base/standard instead of the droopy eye look and had the laser headlight as an upgrade. This would have kept the 5 series premium looking regardless of trim.

I wonder if it'll get the 7 series rear tail lights?

The question of who invented this trick doesn't matter to anyone at this point and isn't known by other than a few loyal BMW fans and customers. What matters is for BMW to maintain a clearly distinguishable light signature amongst all other brands, which BMW deserves all the more so since it created the gimmick. A signature that would be recognizable across the board, to the BMW customer, to the random buyer comparing market offerings, to the fascinated kid watching cars in traffic. Up until now the angular semi-loop quad corona rings couldn't be mixed up with anything else on the market. Not anymore, if these spyshots are anything reliable to go by. That would be an unnecessary loss of identity and that's all that matters.

That's the best they could do with the DRLs?

Never been a big fan of G30 styling...so far LCI looks much more tame than 7series.
I loved the look of F10 and had 2 of them....still best looking 5er along with e39.

I have to disagree. The F10 was an OK looking 5-series. Definitely better than the E60. To me the G30 is the best looking 5-series ever as well as the classic E39.

E39 and F10 were hands down best looking 5 series. G30 is too plain.

Wish BMW did something with that uneventful, borderline plain sheet hood, but doesn't look like LCI does anything there.

I really can't stand the hood on G30. Boring beyond belief. F10 had beautifully sculpted and aggressive looking hood. Now we gotta go M5 to have something going on on the hood.

Maybe narrower headlights and possibly larger grill will add some road presence to this boring design. It drives great but looks too vanilla.

Why is BMW insisting on killing the iconic headlight rings?

BMW were the only ones in the business with a consistent design language with DRLs that could be recognised from a mile away. Merc, Audi and the others change from model to model and is though to distinguish from one another.

DON'T DO THIS BMW!!

What I am really bummed about is how the 3 and 5 series have become such big cars. I like the E39 as a size reference for a mid sized luxury sports sedan.

I do like the rear 3/4 angle looks really good. I'm sure it will be great to drive, just not sure if I want to be seen driving it yet.
Get M340, almost as big as E39 5 series, and more power than 540...
My current thinking too. Thought I was in the market for a 5 next year, but the M340i Touring is a very nice proposition indeed. Not bad looking, fast, more luxurious than its predecessor and well spec'd as standard - variable sport steering, rear diff, adaptive suspension, acoustic glass, adaptive headlights etc

I can't remember if it was Chris Bangle or Adrian V.H who said that the a BMW should be instantly recognisable in the rear view mirror of the car in front. 2 kidney grills with 2 round headlights either side.

It's so sad that they have completely lost the plot and replacing the grills with ridiculous monstrosities and the line effect lights

Who is making these decisions? WHO?
Could it possibly be Jozef Kabaň, who came over from Škoda back in 2017 to replace Karim Habib as BMW chief of design?
(Kabaň then moved over to being Rolls-Royce chief of design in 2019, but apparently has since left the BMW Group altogether - kicked out? )

...Likely still with BMW Group chief of design Adrian van Hooydonk's consent though.

Cars seem to be getting more clones of each other in so many ways. The dangers of fashion in the car industry.

I still like the full quad rings! It is distinct. You can recognize it from far away.

Me too
Sad and stupid to get rid of them. I mean, why would you when they're so much a part of the brand's core image? The new look is so generic and cheap looking

That was the same I was thinking....not at all „reminiscent of the 3 Series"....

Really don't get what BMW designers are doing lately....they are removing more and more iconic BMW things....

They are talking about „our customers want distinct designs" like they say for the new M3/M4 kidneys....but on the other hand removing the such iconic „Angel eyes" DLRs and putting something on it that you see on a ton of VW, Skodas and everywhere else...

I really don't get it anymore...lately, with every „design" news that come out I'm getting more and more disspointed and confused with their decisions...:
