Black rear bumpers

I have 540xi M sport on order in alpine white standard rear bumper (no diffusers) set to be delivered late June early July. Love the style and colors offered but the black rear bumper is so ugly to me. Is that part of the bumper a paintable material?

It's definitely paintable if you want it to match body color, or you can get it in carbon fiber.

I have a white M550 with that rear bumper and like you thought it was the least attractive part of the car but it's starting to grow on me. I thought about painting it but at this point I'm leaving it.

There's a option to get this part of the bumper in carbon fiber. I haven't heard of that. Only carbon fiber option I've seen for the back bumper was the rear diffuser

'One man's meat is another man's poison'. The black bumper was what made me choose Alpine white MSport over other colours and I believe the rear exterior appearance of Alpine White is the most attractive of all colours. Just my opinion

You're correct — it's just that smaller piece (the rear diffuser) that is available in carbon fiber. The larger piece is what BMW calls "Bumper Trim, rear" and is only available in Matte Black. Sorry about the confusion!

So is the standard bumper trim that comes on the M sport paintable. I see the optional one part # 51192412409 is paintable but I would like to keep the standard one that comes with the car as I don't want to add a rear diffuser or spend unnecessarily if I can paint the standard bumper trim

I don't see how any of these body components wouldn't be suitable for painting, even the stock one that comes on the vehicle, with proper preparation by a reputable body/paint shop.

You asked about painting but you can also have it wrapped with a color that's up to you
