M550i Options - keep / regret / wishlist
Apologies if this thread has been posted before
For M550i owners, which options do you: 1. Regret purchasing 2. Wish you purchased 3. Definitely plan to keep next BMW I'm particularly interested in: - Premium package - non run-flat tires - Merino leather - B&W Sound - Ceramic controls |

FYI, my comments refer to 2019 build, packages may have changed...
- Premium package Yes, would get again for HUD and 3D surround view - non run-flat tires Yes, no question. better ride, less $$ to replace, and I like having a spare available - Merino leather didn't get only for the reason that you have to get with ventilated seats. Might get in future for extended leather coverage if could get w/o ventilation. However, nappa is great and I dont really mind not having merino - B&W Sound didn't get, no regrets. Way too much $$ for me and HK is fine for a car. - Ceramic controls Yes, would get again. small cost in the overall price and I like the feel/quality vs. plastic |

Avoid the standard leather at all cost. Get Nappa at the least.

Mine is a 2019 540i.
Absolutely love the Tartufo Merino Leather and leather dash. Would definitely get again. I didn't get the 3D camera because I thought it was In premium pkg but it was move to parking pkg. I really miss it. I could do without lane assist because it doesn't work all the time. If it worked like Tesla I couldn't do without it. I almost got the ceramic knobs and B&W but I really don't miss either. Love messaging seats for trips. I got the spare tire even thought I got run flats. I would always get this option for $150. I can replace run flats with non or sell it for 3x price.

There are other posts that talk about the DHP in more detail. For me, it is a must have. the anti roll feature works extremely well - changes the whole nature of the car when cornering at speed. I also like the rear wheel steering (IAS) which makes a huge difference when parking (I park in very narrow parking garages). I dont know if I've pushed the car enough to see the benefits of the active M suspensions vs. normal on m550, but the difference between comfort and sport is significant. I mainly drive in sport mode and enjoy the car's handling.

I went mostly all in except for the B&W system. See the main options in my sig. Much the same opinions as others.
I did end up with RFTs to get the rims I wanted but now I have non-RFTs for the better ride. I have the active suspension and can now drive in adaptive mode on any back road without it being harsh. The heads up is great once you're used to it. I miss it in my other car. One downside to the massage function is firmer seats due to the mechanism. I wonder if some of the areas don't fully deflate when off.
