Hello people.

I’m looking to buy an adapter for BimmerCode, which can also be used to do simple diagnostics.

What would people recommend in 2024?

Preferably the portable Bluetooth ones, so that I can use it on the go. Plus idk what the process is like on pc. But I’m curious to learn, if anyone would like to share.

This one on Amazon would do the trick.

OBDLink MX+ OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner for iPhone, Android, and Windows https://a.co/d/eVn6I45

I would recommend getting one of the Bimmerlink/ Bimmercode approved ones. Also get a wifi rather than BT adapter. So much easier and faster.

What Dephead2004 said: Definitely get Wifi because it's at least 10x faster than Bluetooth. Last I heard, the MHD Universal Adapter was the most versatile, but somebody else could have recently come out with a better one.

Let me qualify what I just said with one caveat: If you want to leave your adapter connected all the time, you need a Bluetooth adapter. A Wi-Fi adapter will drain your battery if you leave it connected. Personally I have a OBDLink MX+ that I keep connected all the time so I can use phone apps (e.g. BimmerLink) to display gauges for boost pressure, oil and trans temperature, IAT, etc. Whenever I have to code the car (rare these days) I remove and replace the OBDLINK MX+ with a Wi-Fi adapter.

Also don't forget to code out the alarm that goes off if you lock your car with an adapter attached.

Riiight, gotcha thanks!

Just one more question😅What exactly is the difference when it comes to user interface bwtween wifi and bt? Does the wifi work just like the bluetooth, where you instead just pair it on wifi settings on your phone, or?

The process of connecting to the adapter is very different for Bluetooth vs. WiFi, but once connected the apps work exactly the same. Does that answer your question?

So I apologize if this is a readily known answer, but I'm new to BMW after being with Audi for 20 years. I have Bimmercode with the adapter and have done some coding, but I didn't see where I can read and clear codes. Does bimmercode do that, or can I use that same adapter with another app to work with codes? Thanks!

Assuming you mean fault codes, you could use Bimmercode's sister app, Bimmerlink for reading and clearing them. There are other options that you could also consider.

I have the BT adapter as well as an enet cable adapter with Anker adapter to usb-c. The enet cable is dramatically faster reading and coding so that’s all I use now.

Remote tuners also prefer the ENET cable. It's certainly the fastest but in my experience not much faster than Wi-Fi.
