Dyno Runs on M550i

Hey all

So my M550i arrives next week. In addition to having a bunch of M performance pcs added on, I'm having the dealer install the Dinan P1 package (exhaust/tune). I see the numbers Dinan pulled on a dyno on their website, but has anyone put this car on the dyno to see what they got?

Just curious.. I'm not looking for the most aggressive sounding exhaust nor the highest performing tune. It's a lease and I'm a single father just looking for a blend between luxury and sport. I just wasn't sure if anyone has seen the numbers Dinan shows, or close to it as stock.

Any input is appreciated.

Not to talk you out of the exhaust, but I have found the stock M Performance exhaust to be perfect. I have both flaps open on all modes (via fuse pull) and it has enough growl to work for me with no drone. Dinan says their exhaust will give very little if any HP gain. The Stage 1 tune however is worth it.

As far as numbers, the only real world numbers other than Dinan's posted ones are from users in their documented 1/4 mile runs. The Stage 1 tune seems to cut 1/2 second off the 1/4 and likely close to 1/2 sec on 0-60. Dinan claims their stock and S1 dyno numbers were done on two machines including a Mustang dyno.

Break it in first and then get a dyno before modifying it. At least then you'll have a better baseline. I've heard the stock dyno numbers are much higher than 456/480.

Depending on what you've driven in the past, you may like it as it is!

I've heard conflicting information but my Dinan / BMW Dealership recommends waiting to install the Stage 1 tune until the 1200 mile break in service. That's what I'm going to do, but also because I'd like to get a feel for the car so I can notice the difference once it's installed 😎

I'm about to start a lease on the 550i but assumed any modifications could be an issue (whether it's voiding the warranty or issues with lease turn in). Did the dealer say mods are ok for a leased car?

Dinan is installed and serviced by many BMW dealers. It has a warranty which will cover what BMW won't in the event the Dinan is blamed. It is one of the rare third party performance mods "covered" by BMW (via the additional Dianan warranty). This includes leased cars, which you can remove it when the lease is up or some have left it on.

does it need to be installed by the dealer for the warranty support?

No. But would need to be serviced by Authorized Dinan Dealer (or BMW shop that is one). More here:

Can you provide details on the exhaust flap mod? Will it work on a 2016 550?

Does the M Performance exhaust come only on true M cars? Is it the same as the M Performance exhaust sold as an accessory on ShopBMWUSA? Also is it controllable from the cockpit like that on my Z06? Thanks--Bob
