12.3" Screen / M5 Climate Screen Retrofit

Hey all you cool cats and kittens,

I have a 2020 530e (with ID7) and I retrofitted the 12.3" Navigation Screen along with the Four zone climate screen. Both were plug and play with no additional coding. Pics are below.

I'm soo doing this when I get my 530i msport. Is it really just simple plug and play? Also is it working flawlessly? Cheers legend.

Yes there's one plug on the back of the navigation screen and two plugs on the climate screen. One for the HVAC and one for the Radio. The radio/hvac is held in place by four prongs that you can pull by hand and the nav screen slides in a slot and is held in place by two torq screws. I literally changed everything in 20 minutes.

No glitches or anything. It started up and worked as it should.

Is the info on the screen scaled to the new size?
Is it a different resolution or simply larger?

Everything is scaled to the new size. I just purchased a 2021 540i and everything is identical visually.

Okay I totally need this in my 2021 M550i (the climate screen only, of course). Where did you get the parts for it? I have the digital climate buttons in my 740i and I love it. I was so bummed the M550i didn't have it. Is there a different screen for cars with heated and ventilated seats or does the screen automatically pick up that the car has both and conform the buttons to it?

I have retrofited this 12.3" Display to a G12 (Idrive 6), it is not plug&play, coding is needed. There is a setback that the nav screen and Carplay do not work in full resolution. TV function works over full screen and everything else works fine.

As I said in my description, I did the retrofit in a G30 with ID7. It was plug and play and no additional coding was needed.

@B530e - I just purchased the digital climate and radio unit to switch it out in my 2021 M550i. I haven't received it yet, but here are some photos of the online listing. Do the wires in the back look right?

Also, did you watch any video or instructions on how to change this or did you try to figure it out on your own? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Ok quite glad for the 10 inch screen I have - the 12 seems massive, almost too big

Yes, those look correct. Just plug them in. I figured it out. I knew how to take the Veneer/Vents/Start/Stop Button Slab off and the rest i just popped out with my hands. You can take a panel remover tool and lightly pry around the edges of the climate/radio unit and pull

Climate module can be replaced in 3 min 27 sec (its that easy) i go between the modules since the touch module is not so useable especially while driving.

Did you find that you had to take out the wood trim above the module to be able to remove it or are you able to get away with just popping out the module from the bottom up without removing any of the wood trim, vents, etc.? I've read both so just want to get your take on it. Thanks!

This has to be the easiest and best upgrade anyone can do to their G30. Took me about 15 minutes total (10 of which was spent swapping the CD player portion with the non-CD player portion of my car). Bought the part from a reputable parts guy on eBay - came from Europe in just 4 days! Plug and play, no coding needed just as OP said. Before and after pics below. Thanks again OP!

You have to take it out but not all the way (no need to unplug it either) just get some painters tape and glue it to the back of your screen so you can unplug the climate controller and plug the new one in.
As mentioned by others here its super simple and easy.

I was able to do it without removing any of the trim. It was very easy.

Thank you for posting the side/side pictures. I was honestly planning on upgrading this, but after seeing the photos I prefer the physical buttons...

They each definitely have their pros/cons. For me it was mainly aesthetics that drove me to make the change.
