Brake Service - iDrive

Hi All,

Just curious, do you see the brake service on your idrive service menu?

In all my previous cars there was an entry for front brakes and rear brakes separately... for some reason I don't have it showing. The car is a 2018 G30 540ix.

Just checked the Connected app and it doesn't show it either. I've seen some posts on the forum where some people say they have it :

Cars currently at 33k and would be nice to see when the sensor is going to trigger. The car was last serviced and had a warranty check in March 2021. According to BMW, they brakes were fine with plenty of meat left on them but would be nice to see some values even if they are estimates etc.

My understanding is that in the G30 it only shows when the sensor actually trips. You aren’t in bald brakes by then but it should be dealt with soon.

I bet it was to save BMW money as this allows them to be sure they are only paying for brakes as needed under ultimate care +.

On my 2012 F30, it had the Brake entry in the service list in iDrive. It popped up a warning one day that the brakes required service. The dealership inspected the brakes and reset the indicator to something like 60k miles and said the software was not accurate. Perhaps this is why they no longer include it in the list since there isn't a real good way to actually monitor pad wear accurately.

Brake Service - iDrive

I have a 2018 530d and have the same information i.e. no information of front or rear brake pads service. My understanding is the same as it will only show up on iDrive once the sensor has been tripped when the pads have worn to a certain depth.

...but it will show up in the Service History once they´re replaced.

I got the same explanation as dscabra; the older models (F30, F20 etc.) uses a calculated mileage showing the remaining life of the brakes. So it´s not accurate at all.
