M550 - routine service cost?
Hi y'all.
Sorry if this is a crass question. I bought a CPO 2018 M550 earlier this year and I am wondering what is involved in the service due at approx. 44K miles. Is this basically a glorified oil change, or am I looking at a larger outlay? The car is such a delight that I'm not super worried about it, but at the same time I don't want sticker shock when the time comes. Also, I am considering taking it on an extensive trip later in the summer; the mileage for the service would expire when I'm 2000 miles from my dealer. Is it better to schedule an appointment "out there" somewhere? Would there be any disadvantage in just having it done early at my home dealer? I know there's no right answer to this kind of question - I'm just wondering what others would do. Thanks! |

I can't comment on the prices as I am UK based so my knowledge would not help there, but in terms of when to get it done I'd say book it in before your trip then you have piece of mind as you are travelling - it won't do any harm

In terms of the service due at 44,000 miles, I am fairly certain most of the service will be to "check" a million things and the rest filters and fluid changes and flushes. Most if not all can wait 2,000 miles. That said, since you will be going on a long trip, you should definitely make sure your brakes are meaty and the oil change interval won't pass by significantly. Your call, but might as well get it over with. All those "checks" can't hurt for a long road trip. Be ready to write a check though. All these "checks" are for a rea$on.

If you’re only seeing a brief message at start up...you should be able to pull up more info in iDrive. I know iDrive 7 looks different than the pic below..but you still should see a list of inspections that are due or if they are OK or soon to come due:

Thanks, all, for your advice...
My car doesn't show specific service items yet; it just says service is due in 6000 miles or October. I was going to pay for an oil change anyway... I think 11000 is just too long. I THINK I got an oil change with the major coolant system repair several weeks ago but I still want fresh.
As for the rest of it, just want to remove any doubt for CPO warranty coverage. Will probably bite the bullet and do whatever they advise before I leave. Interestingly, I visited the bmw value service page and learned that G30 cars aren't eligible. A few more pennies will be required. |

I can’t show you exactly what it it looks like since you have ID7...I only have images of my earlier ID4 version of iDrive...but you should still be able to retrieve the same basic information from your version. Even if you scroll down through all the SERVICES listed...it will show the month and/or mileage...and you’d be able to see which one is due in 6000 miles. For example, back in April I started getting a service message in the instrument cluster because my biennial BRAKE FLUID service was coming due in May/2021...and OIL & VEHICLE CHECK services were coming due in June/2021. When I go into VEHICLE INFO then VEHICLE STATUS in iDrive...it gives me more details as to which service is due or past due. RED means the service is overdue (or past due)...and yellow/amber means the service is due now. See pics below...which again, yours will look different but the basic principles are the same: (BTW, brake fluid is getting changed this coming Wednesday...and I’m doing the OIL & VEHICLE CHECK services myself...sometime this week...was going to do it today but I’m sitting here browsing the internet instead of getting my work done).

OK, I found it
It is calling for an oil service and a "vehicle check" in 5000 miles. I was going to do an oil change anyway (11K miles seems like long interval). The only concern is that this will likely accelerate the due dates for all future services.
Thanks for the pointers and data - GD |

Great…I’m glad you found out what services you were getting prewarned about.
If you want to do an oil change sooner that what the BMW CBS schedule is giving you…you probably can check if the oil service is resettable. I only say that because I’m not totally fluent on the new models yet. HOPEFULLY the g30 or ID7 experts will chime in as to how to get the instrument cluster service info up on the cluster to see if the service is resettable. You can see in the new pics below my updated status for the oil service & vehicle check. I changed the oil and oil filter Sunday….and the CBS calculated my next oil change to 8000 miles or by 6/2022. My VEHICLE CHECK went from amber to red (-6 miles overdue) after I reset the OIL service. I just did my filters (engine, HVAC micro filters, & recirc filters) today….and like stated earlier, I’m paying to have the spark plugs and brake fluid done…so the VEHICLE check was reset and the CBS (condition based service) calculated the next Vehiicle check to 6/2025 & 32000 miles. You can see that the services that were just done can not be reset yet because there’s a specific calculation required (mileage/gas consumption) before you can reset a service again. If you pull up this info in the instrument cluster (should be videos on YouTube that shows how)….you can see if a reset is possible.
