I noticed that the roundel on my steering wheel has a relatively small dent in it it appears that the previous owner may have pushed on it and somehow dented it in. It was minor enough that I did not even notice it when I purchased a car but now I haven't had the car for a few months I noticed it and now I can't stop seeing it.
I took the car back to the selling dealership for another minor repair and they essentially refused to fix it and said that they would not repair it. The dealership I bought the car from is not local to me and will not be the dealer servicing the car from this point forward. the next time my car goes into my localdealer I may address it with them and see if they would replace it under my CPO coverage. I recall someone saying that perhaps the roundel in my steering wheel is actually part of the airbag cover system and it could be actually fairly expensive to replace but I've also seen inexpensive round owls that look like they glue on top of the existing one. I don't want to put on an ugly aftermarket one or something with weird colors I would like it to look OEM I'm curious if the steering wheel roundel is actually something I could pop off and easily replace or if this is something I'm going to be stuck spending legitimate money on to fix and replace professionally?? If it's not going to be covered under warranty and it's going to cost a ton of money due to it being somehow incorporated into the airbag system I could just leave it or possibly take efforts to try and get a dent removal guy to maybe pop the dent out?? I actually wondered if I used some kind of hot glue affixed to something I might be able to pull on it and pop the dent out enough to where it looks good enough? Given that it's right smack in the middle of my face every time I drive the car I would like to get it addressed any suggestions or insights thank you

Not good news here, that Roundel is part of the air bag system. Hopefully you haven't already tried to pry if off and got an explosion in your face. There are overlays you can buy though. I have no experience with how they fit or look though. Google or search ebay.

I feel your pain. The center display in my CPO Mercedes was a mess I learned after buying and could never convince them to swap out. I made a note to myself to pay close attention to these things next time I buy a used car and not just the big ticket stuff on my checklist.
At the end of the day you are buying a used car so you have to expect some stuff like this or filter it out in your selection process. This time around I ordered new so I don’t have to worry about it, but next time I may not and will look for “small details”. Your leverage is all before you buy. You could then get the dealer I writing to fix A or B and have legal room to enforce. You can try calling BMWNA though. They may offer a courtesy repair for you. Considering it is their logo they might prefer it to stay in pristine condition. |

I would not try to pry it off with any method. As someone above stated, you could set off the airbag. The only way to do it safely would be to remove the airbag first and then try some type of tool. I actually have something that uses hot glue, different plastic "bits" and a tool that pulls that bit out - hard to explain. I used it on my refrigerator to get some dents out. It worked ok but not great.

Thanks for the input - I was afraid it was not an easy fix.
I have reminded myself that it is a used car and not perfect. Aside from this small dent , the csr is in otherwise impeccable cosmetic condition. This is the concession for buying CPO and not new - and given how much money I saved I'll take it! Thanks guys! The local dealer that I will be using that going forward is really good I'll talk with Service Advisor and see if maybe they would do it out of Goodwill.

It cannot be replaced. The roundel on my previous 535 was peeling and the dealer replaced the entire steering wheel under warranty. They said they cannot just replace the roundel.
