iDrive software update
I've heard rumors about an update to the iDrive 7.0 (lite) being released in June that is supposed to add more functionality and get closer to a full 7.0. Does anyone know anything about this?

RSU not coming to MY20 G30. Not gonna happen because the car has some modules that were not upgraded for MY20 that must be upgraded for the car to support RSU. These module upgrades are part of the MY21 LCI changes. And my money is on MY20 G30 (nor any iDrive 7 MY19 or 20 vehicle) not ever getting Android Auto later this year when newer iStep versions release. Just my gut telling me what will be the case based on 22+ years driving the brand. Even bmwblog posted an article recently claiming that MY19 and 20 iDrive 7 cars will not get Android Auto in a future RSU. This contradicts what many of read late last year when word came that Android Auto would finally be supported starting July 2020. It's just so typically BMW to not back port features.

I wouldn't hold your breath for RSU in a 2020 G30.

BMW has pitched RSU as required for the new functionality in iDrive 7 such as the personal assistant and updated navigation functionality. MY2020 G30 has these features that were announced on the LCI already. This adds room for BMW to add RSU to the G30 to support keeping those features working over the intended lifespan of the car. That doesn't mean they'll add new features with an RSU or that an RSU on the G30 would be as comprehensive as an RSU on the LCI (for instance, maybe the RSU would be limited to updating iDrive systems, but not capable of updating modules on the car that were only updated for the LCI). But I don't think it can be definitely said that RSU or even AA won't come for MY2020 cars... I stick by my advice to anyone planning to purchase a car (as I have since purchasing mine last year) look at what is on the car now and assume it won't change so you don't buy a car without a feature you want, but I'm optimistic that BMW will update the car for AA next month or so and possibly RSU as well. But I already own my car so I'm on the train no matter what |

And for anyone who has driven BMWs for years, how many times has BMW back ported software features? <crickets> Regarding AA, this may come to iDrive7 cars via RSU or for 2020 G30 cars via a dealer iStep upgrade. Maybe. I say this only because I read one article that said a BMW staffer claimed so. So it's either coming or that staffer has been reassigned to floor sweeping. Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy if 2020 G30 owners got all the upgrades speculated. That would mean there's hope for BMW having a new outlook on existing owners. Very Tesla-esque.
