2018 or 19?
Could this have anything to do with the 2019 oil pan issue. A few cars were held at VPC .

I don’t think so. I think the size of the oil supply lines was increased based on my service documentation. The service center said I had the “full extent” of the campaign.

I'm glad to have the work done before there's a serious problem. Car runs and drives as good as ever and I have some peace of mind that an issue known to BMW has been proactively addressed. Hopefully time and miles treat our 550s better than previous v8 models. |

My M550 oil pan was removed for inspection, and I already had the braided oil lines. The oil pan issue is an inspection for the possibility of metal debris from the engine manufacturing process, definitely a separate campaign. You'd be notified if BMW thought your engine was manufactured at a time that required this inspection.

One would think that BMW would have any oil issue ironed out. After all this 4.4 V8 is not new. It has been around for a while, albeit it various forms. Could it be an issue of the engineers vs the bean counters? Did they try and save a few cents? I haven't looked but has any M5s or older 550s had similar issues?

Most likely. I just had this done and many iDrive settings including one-touch buttons went back to factory defaults. I also lost my bluetooth pairing and had to add it back.
Some settings were retained, possibly due to the dealer marking some down and restoring them. I discovered a new feature, the navigation dest appears in the tach at startup, but goes away in 5 seconds. Note I have the Dynamic Digital Instrument Cluster. The owners manual doc lists it in the instrument cluster info but I can't find any iDrive setting to control it though.

Somehow the recall/campaign was split into 2 separate visits. During my first oil change last year, they applied the campaign for an "updated engine lubricity strategy". This apparently was only flashing the car (no parts), and took almost a full day. A few months later I got the recall notice about the oil lines to the turbos. That ended up being the "parts" side of the recall, and no flashing was needed. Since flashing wasn't needed on this second appt., it only took a few hours and all of my settings remained intact.
