My brand new 530i trunk paint is peeling out after washing

I received my brand new car from the dealership yesterday and to went a 3m authorized retailer to protect my car. Today, i got a call that after washing it and before applying any protection layer they found that the car's trunk paint can be removed easily. So i went to the dealership but they are not giving me any solution. Any recommendations, whose fault is this, and according to pictures is the truck has a factory paint or not

I would make this a dealership issue. I'd imagine this would be covered under the bumper to bumper warranty unless there was proof it was caused by an accident of some kind. I definitely wouldn't let them blow me off here...

For that to happen there almost had to be a trunk repaint. The odds of that being a factory paint coming off is extremely low.

Looks as though the primers come away and it's gone down to bare metal. Email bmw and don't leave the dealer till they promise to sort it. How long have you had the car?

No dealer in his right mind wouldn't resolve this. Was it actually brand new, the dealer didn't do any repair before they sold it on?

Can the 3m guy measure the paint on the trunk vs rest of car. That may point you in the right direction as to whether the trunk had been resprayed.

I bought mine used from a authorised dealer about 2 months ago. They're still really helpful.

I don't know the Egyptian rules but if you can reject the car, do so. I am thinking that there was a problem and either at the factory or at the port of entry they repainted the car. If they did this crappy of a job, who knows what else may be wrong with it.

Incredible..never seen anything like that. Any signs of it ever being repaired? .. sometimes they incur shipping damage and get resprayed at port repair facilities.

It seems like every layer of clear, paint, and prime is coming off... That just blows my mind. The fact that the dealer is blowing you off makes it that much more incredible. What did the dealer say exactly when you showed this? Let us know what BMW says.

Buy a paint depth gauge or take it to a body shop that has one. Get some photos of paint thickness readings around the vehicle. Something is rotten in Denmark.

The whole car is dipped in protectants and sprayed by robots — watch the production videos. Something here is odd and my first blame wouldn’t be the production line.

The paint got damaged during the delivery process (Factory-boat-dealer) and someone did a bad job repainting it. This happens quite often without people not even knowing their brand new car got repainted

Yeah. But this one was repainted by an angry 2 year old in the middle of a tantrum.

Yes this is exactly what I was going to say if the dealership doesn't want to work with you. Because the painting process is essentially automated the thickness of paint and prime will be pretty even especially in flatter surfaces and when a human will respray you will notice significant differences in the numbers.

Agree, it's a repaint and a bad one at that. Same thing happened to me with a Porsche caught in an accident. Was washing it with a hose and the paint just flowed off the fender. I was in total shock.

The dealer should have been made aware if it was damaged between the factory and inspection station at US port of entry. He may not have known if the transport company damaged it from POE to the dealership and then tried to repair the damage.

Definitely contact the BMW corporate headquarters customer relations department directly and file a complaint via phone and email. This is bigger than the dealership...

That obviously looks like it isn't factory but that doesn't mean it wasn't done at the port. A certain amount of repair is allowed at the port and it can still be sold as new. In the US you could just return it if you just picked it up but don't know about your country. I assume you don't have many BMW dealerships close to you? Dealer should take care of it especially since they charge BMW under warranty. If they refuse then they did something suspicious.

The OP is not in the US.

The dealer is usually not made aware of anything and is not obligated to tell you anything.

However, in the US all repairs made at the VPC are in their system and they can look it up if questions arise.

Since all of the paint came off, I suggest that it was not a repaint, but instead the trunk lid was replaced and painted. I would not be surprised if the dealer blamed the detailer, but the reality is that something happened before the OP bought the car, and BMW or the dealer should make it right.

Picture of the trunk looks like a camel laying down ready to eat the fly next to him.
