S63tu JB4 and Stage 1 compatible with M550i

As you guys read the title, just spotted on n54tech from Terry

"Good news,

Was able to confirm our N63_B Stage1 is fully compatible with the G series N63TU engine. We'll be updating our site shortly.

Also, it looks like our S63TU JB4 & BCM system are also compatible, with a minor firmware change. So expect to see that in the future also."

Hold on tight guys, our M550's are about to start flying lol

That is good news -- progress! I'm still waiting on Dinan but will certainly give Terry and team a shot. Is the M550i the S or N63 model?

The M550i has N63TU2, but S63tu jb4 or rather M5/M6's JB4 is compatible with a firmware update.

Yep, not sure if this is an update but just noticed the G30 on the list of models supported. Anyone install one of these on previous models? How difficult is it for the first time installer?

So I've received the BMS Stage 1, tried installing it but realized it requires the airbox assembly to be removed so I didn't go any further, will get help from friends who know what they're doing

Wow -- I was hoping it would be a simple plug in without any major maneuvering around the engine. I purchased a piggyback from Rebellion for my AMG and they claimed 15 minutes for the install. I couldn't get it installed myself and eventually it took my shop two hours to get it connected. I guess I'll wait for Dinan and let my BMW dealer do the install work. Thanks for the update.

Sheharyar_rr, did you get a chance to install JB4?

I did a back to back comparison of my wife's M550i (325 miles on odo) and my ESS F80 (15k on odo). While M550i was very strong throughout but F80 pulled harder through all the gears and doesn't seem to drop off. ESS F80 may have a slight edge on stock M550i. I am curious to see what M550i w/ JB4 will do.

Let us know please.

Yeah I installed the stage 1, not the full JB4+BCM. Check the latest thread I posted with the 1/4 mile number. Tuned F80 should def pull harder than a stock M550i either ways.

So, was the installation complicated? I remember seeing a thread with people saying it is a piece of cake.
I installed one on the F10 535i. I wasn't as easy as I thought the first time, took like 45 minutes (of course get easier and easier after 2-3 times).

Definitely complicated on the M550 as theres no space to work on. Similar to F10 M5 i'd say. You need to take off the braces, loosen the airbox to get to the connectors. I figured it's just better to just pay someone 80 bucks to install it.

Yeah, you also need small hands to squeeze in the tight spaces to disconnect sensors and connect the harness. I did it for the first time in an hour and 45 minutes but could do it again in about an hour. Unless you have small hands, be prepared to deal with several scratches on your knuckles and spending time figuring out how to reach in the tight spaces.

You guys talking about M550? Theres absolutely no space for hands to fit in

Yep -- 2018 M550i. It's tight but if you remove a few bolts you can push a few things aside just enough to get your hand in there. I've never done it before but followed the BMS instructions on which bolts to remove/loosen. I'm 6'3 with normal size hands so if I can do it, I think anyone can. My previous car was a Merc and it was PIA to install the harness. I eventually took it to the shop and a friend spend 4 hours getting it installed.

for my f10 m5 was quite annoying had to remove the airboxes and whatnot. youre def right about the hands getting fucked very annoying. can just get your gf/wife to connect the the bits in the tight spots though. either way its worth saving money and doing it yourself.
