Key Fob and Airconditioner Settings

Can someone please try a test on their car and let me know if they are having this issue. BMW Genius escalated to corporate to see if this a problem across the line and I haven't heard yet. I don't want to waste my time in service if there is no fix. Please try this and write back you results.

1)turn car on and set AC to Auto and Recirculation with 1 key.
2)Now turn car on with the second key and set exactly the same
3)Go get 1st key and restart the car. Does the Auto settings stay on your 1st key?

When I switch between keys, all my auto climate settings get erased. But if I use the same key over and over, the auto climate setting stay.

Please, someone try this, it will only take a minute.

Just got back from dealership. Computer on key fob 2 had a setting that was not checked off. I just tested and seems to be fixed now.

Couple Questions:
  • Are you using the DisplayKey as any key in this situation?
  • Are you shutting the vehicle off, locking and walking the 1st key out of range from the vehicle?
  • When you approach the car, are you using comfort access to unlock the car or pressing the unlock button on the remote to access the vehicle with either key?
  • If you use the unlock button on "key 1" in this example and not comfort access, do the settings return to the "key 1" settings after using "key 2"?

This happens on my car as well (G30 530i). If you switch between key 1 and 2 the AC settings are kaput.

I took into service, they thought they fixed it but didn't. If you are having the same problem, I bet it was something missed by bmw engineers. Service center said there are no error codes, computer was fine and had no answers for me.

Why does every other setting stay but AC Setting?

I have tried so many things, it doesn't matter. Someone else on this thread experiencing same thing when going from key 1 to key 2. It probably hasn't been reported yet because not to many people share a car. On tuesday and thursdays, my kids have soccer and rather them muddy up my wifes car. this is how I discovered this problem, every friday morning my ac settings were wiped out.

If I use key 1 over and over, the settings stay. only when you go from key 1 to key 2.

If you ever happen to get that fixed (if it is even broken) who knows now, can you let me know what your service department did. Mine said car has no errors and nothing wrong with it. I can't believe this would get past BMW Engineer Department.

I haven't noticed anything on mine. I'll try to change couple of settings and try it again this weekend. I'll keep you posted.

Sure thing. I'll mention it at next service, see what they say.

Key fobs losing climate control settings

I took delivery of my new 5-Series G30 BMW two months ago and I am experiencing exactly the same problems as the others who have posted in this thread. I have 3 keys, one is a Display Key, and the climate control settings disappear randomly if I use different keys. I spoke to my dealer in the UK and they had not heard of the problem before, so I agreed to keep using different keys each time I use the car to see if I could figure out what was happening.

It seems that after I use the Display Key the problem occurs with the other keys, but this does not happen every time so it is a real mystery what is going on.

I think that the problem needs to be escalated to the BMW Technical team to carry out a full investigation and come up with a solution which is likely to involve a vehicle software update.

It seems that this is a problem in all new 5-Series G30 and F10 models and it seems to me that only BMW can fix it.

I suggest that all affected owners should push their dealer to take the matter back to BMW for a technical solution which should be rolled out to all owners.

I have an escalated complaint with bmw genius looking into this. Hopefully my dealer service department also put in a ticket. I am waiting for call on the service in which I will put another complaint in. The car needs to go into sleep mode for this happen. If you try a key immediately after you shut car off, it works fine. Wait 5 minutes incase you decide to show your dealer the problem. Car Must go into sleep mode.

Sorry nothing to add other than I'm having this same problem myself and it's random and annoying as hell. Just yesterday, the dial on the passenger side was set at 82 and blowing out hot air while I'm wondering what's going on.

It's a minor inconvenience I can live with. I brought the car in to service twice over this, both times they said they fixed and it still happens. It has to be a problem across the entire line, people just don't realize.

Hi Steve. I have locked the car each time I leave it and everything seems to be working fine.

I have been using my three keys and all had been working correctly for about two weeks. However, yesterday I noticed that some of the climate control settings have been lost on two of the keys. So it seems that the problem has not been fixed and it is intermittent. Will speak to the BMW service department next time I take the car there.

Previously, six climate control settings were being lost (temperature, a/c, sync, upper body temp, auto recirc, fan speed). Now only three seem to be getting lost (temperature, sync, upper body temp.)

A real mystery.

I've been having the same issue ever since delivery. Got 530e built in May with 534 Automatic air conditioning.

Anyone had any luck in fixing this?
