going to attempt brake change on my g30 - any advice?

Hello everyone,

I'm planning to change the front and rear brakes on my 2021 G30 530E with the M Sport package and blue brakes. Here are the OEM part numbers I'm considering:

For the front (348x36):
- Front pads: 34116889570
- Front right rotor: 34108858706
- Front left rotor: 34108858705
- Front sensor: 34356890788

For the rear (345x24):
- Rear pads: 34216890353
- Rear left rotors: 34208853554 (x2)
- Rear sensor: 34356890791

I have a couple of questions:
1. Any concerns or things to watch out for when replacing brakes on the G30?
2. OEM replacements are pricey. Does anyone know the manufacturer for the rotors and pads? Google suggests Brembo for the front (rotor, pad) and TRW for the rear.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah be mindful of the ABS sensor wires when you go to bolt the calipers back on. It's possible to pinch them with the caliper bolt- that's a great way to ruin your day.

The fronts are definitely all Brembo. I wouldn't use any alternative manufacturer for rotors, pads though pick your flavor.

Thanks

Looking at brembo rotors for the front matching the OEM numbers.

To do the rear you'll need BimmerLink or another app to put the parking brake into service mode. I runs the motors in the rear calipers back in all the way. I learned the hard way... do not take it out of service mode until the new brakes are installed with the caliper mounted back in position. Once you take it out of service mode it will retorque the parking brake actuators. I was unaware when I did mine and it popped both pistons out of the caliper as they were still hanging by a bungee. Otherwise, pretty straight forward brake job.

I just did my sister's car this morning. Fronts were easy. For the rears, I couldn't get the caliper bolts to break loose to remove the calipers to remove the rotors. I have no power tools so I'll be taking it to the shop for the rears.

A good compact impact wrench makes this job soooo much easier. And the savings from taking it to a shop will pay for the tools.

You were right on this one. Labor was $269. My sister didn't mind paying for it. But I'll invest into a good impact wrench for future use on my cars

Hi. Ball park, how much was it for the parts (BMW or Brembo)? Thanks.

Not much to it. I have changed the front and rear pads on my old M550i with PowerStop pads. In the rear the electrical parking brake actuator has to be wind back up. There are video's showing how to do that and make sure you use BMW brake pad wear sensors.

I've used Akebono pads on previous BMWs for replacements and loved them, you will enjoy not having to deal with brake dust! Something to consider. Thanks
